Beds & District - 28 April 2007

My thanks to the show management for calling me in to replace Jenny Jones when she had to stay at home to look after a cat; I hope exhibitors were not too disappointed at the switch (particularly seeing that Jenny was herself a replacement for the indisposed Jean Gamble - best wishes for her recovery). Thanks to Lisa Aggett for coming to steward for me - always a pleasure.

Open Classes

Blue Point Adult Male

1+CC+BOB Low's ADVIAM SUNSHINE MAKER 4 Mar 06

A lad of good type, sufficiently mature considering his age. Medium length well balanced wedge, well set large ears which he tended to flatten a little from apprehension when out of his pen. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Expressive eyes of good shape and set and of a good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points of a darkish shade of blue, body showing moderate surface shading to tone but a good approach to glacial under the shading. Coat a fraction long but of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tortie Point Adult

Not an easy class, all the exhibits having their faults, and the end result against my personal preference.

1+CC+BOB Bearman's GLENTHORNE CORABELLA (32b1) 4 Dec 05

A girl of good type. Long wedge, a little overlong in the muzzle and with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm deep chin and level bite. Well set eyes of good basic shape but a fraction full with a good depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch for balance. Points all broken, of a darkish seal mingled mostly with background red, though there was enough real red on her ears to satisfy the standard. Lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. She seemed to have her mind on other things today; excellent presentation.

2 Pereira's YELOPERYL AMAZINMAIZIE (32b3) 28 Jul 06

A very adolescent looking girl. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight, though a little angled down from the brow, a small fleshy lump on her head no doubt the result of a friend's errant claw, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, and a good depth of blue. Long firm body, the sternum a little prominent though not protruding, a problem which I am sure will vanish when she muscles up. Long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points quite a good warm chocolate all well broken with a pleasing amount of bright red in the mixture. Very lightly shaded warm ivory body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. I feel she has definite promise when she develops a little.

3 Cook's TIANLEX HETTY HOTLEGS (32b8) 17 Jun 06

A girl of good type, in many ways the most attractive of these girls. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, large ears which she held a fraction low. Small dip in profile, very firm deep chin, surprisingly at her age no incisors, but the distance between the upper and lower canines and back teeth left me in no doubt that she was significantly undershot, a view confirmed by the duty vet. Eyes of very good shape and set, and of a good depth of blue. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail which needed to be much longer for balance and with a prominent last vertebra. Points of very good lilac-based caramel all well broken except the right hind paw which was sparsely broken, plenty of foreground apricot visible. Almost unshaded off white body, coat of good length and texture. Very friendly - calling I think; excellent presentation.

Blue Point Kitten Male

1+BOB Hill's SOWHYNOT WINTERKING 31 Dec 06

A well grown kitten of good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile a little uneven as yet, with a tiny depression above the brow and dip below, firm chin with level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a reasonable depth of blue, with an occasional tendency to squint. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch or two for balance. Points a darkish blue to mask and ears, tail and paws lighter, moderately shaded body. Coat of good length and texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Blue Point Kitten Female

1 Peary's HARTZIE ZIGGY STARDUST 27 Oct 06

A girl of good type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, chin ebbs a little, bite scissored over. Eyes of very good shape and set, needing a little more depth of blue. Medium length firm body, long legs with largeish paws, tail needs an extra inch or two for balance. Points quite a good shade of blue, very lightly shaded cool toned body, coat of good length and texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Caramel Point Kitten Male

1 (BOB N/A) Kingswell's KINGSOWEN KINDAMAGIC 11 Dec 06

A kitten of reasonably good type. Medium length wedge, rather short from the eyes down and needing more width at the top, large ears set a little high. Eyes of good basic shape though a little full, needing more depth of blue. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points lilac based caramel with the sludgy overtones developing well under the paws and on the ears. Unshaded off white body, coat of good length and texture. Excellent super-soft temperament, excellent presentation.

Red Point Neuter Male

1+PC+BOB Marshall & McDutton's FLUTTERBY OLE JOSE FOX 22 Mar 06

A lad of very good type, who I am pleased to see now has a maturity in keeping with his age. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, large ears well set. Profile straight apart from a small bump on the nose, firm chin, bite scissored over. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance and with a touch of stud tail at the base - I imagine he has not long been neutered. Points a good bright red, body lightly shaded, coat of good length except a little long along the back, close lying but of a fractionally harsh texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Also considered for BOB Duncan's GR PR BRYTHAIS SIMPLY RED 30 May 02

A mature lad of good type. Long almost even wedge, needing a fraction more width at the top, well set ears which ideally would be a fraction larger. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set needing a little more depth of blue. Very long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance the length of body. Points of an excellent bright red, body lightly shaded, coat of good length but a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Miscellaneous Classes

Junior Siamese/Balinese Adult

1 Martin's CH GLENTHORNE CONSTANTINE (24) M 4 Dec 05

A large lad of very good type. Long slightly pinched wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin ebbs slightly, bite almost level. Eyes of very good shape and set, a little dull though with good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, long tail with a small irregularity at the tip. Points a dark seal needing more warmth. Shading over the back of the head but still some contrast, the body moderately shaded but appearing warmer in tone than when I last saw him, coat a little long and slightly greasy. Excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Bearman's GLENTHORNE CORABELLA (32b1) F

3 Pereira's YELOPERYL AMAZINMAIZIE (32b3) F

Siamese Breeders Kitten

Here I have to confess a mistake. In judging this class, I managed to misinterpret the repeat from my blue point Open class, so the 4th place reflected how the female kitten would have been placed in this class, not the male who was actually entered in it. I can only apologise to his owners - little consolation though it is, he would either have been placed first, or just possibly second.

A lad of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, very firm deep chin, bite level. 2 Read's ADAJAN VANILLA SKYE (61bt) F 6 Aug 06

A promising girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set ears which need to be a little larger. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and of a good depth of blue. Long body, long legs with neatish paws, tail needs an extra inch or tow to balance. Marked in a good warm chocolate, with a very pale tail: clear "M", single ribbon and thumbprints, faint leg bars, tail rings just visible. Unshaded warm ivory body. Coat of promising length, though with a little too much undercoat, the texture a fraction hard. Excellent temperament and presentation.
