Cambridgeshire C.C. - 29 Mar 2008

Thanks to Sally, Paul and the show management team for the invitation to judge at this popular show, a pity there were not more Siamese and Orientals though the quality was good. Thanks to Katherine for stewarding for me for the first time, an experience I look forward to repeating.

Open Classes

Imperial Class - AC Oriental Grand Champion, Female

IGCC Wildon's GR CH SUNJADE STARDUST (45k) 16 Dec 05

A very vocal lady of excellent type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large eras. Profile straight apart from a small bump on the nose, firm deep chin, bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good clear green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour quite a good very warm cinnamon, showing three bands of ticking, the spine a shade darker, tail almost free of rings. Close coat of excellent texture. Handled well despite the words, excellent presentation.

2 (Res IGCC N/A) Tarbox's GR CH TIJANMEEK TEASEMEBABY (37h) 18 Sep 04

A very friendly mature girl of good type. Longish even wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set ears which ideally would be a fraction larger. Small dip in profile, firm but slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a pale olive green. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour an extremely dark though warm chocolate well broken on everywhere with shades of red showing a pleasing degree of warmth, sound to the roots. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Imperial Class - AC Siamese/Balinese Grand Champion, Male

IGCC Harrington's IMP GR CH HELLFIRE CASTASPELL (32/10) 26 Nov 03

A strong mature lad of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, bite lacking most incisors but level. Expressive eyes of excellent shape and set and very good depth of blue. Very long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Marked in a good dingy toned warm apricot: clear "M" and single ribbon, no thumbprints, good leg bars, tail two thirds ringed. Lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Imperial Class - AC Siamese/Balinese Grand Champion, Female

1 (IGCC N/A) Pounds's GR CH JOMESE JENUINELY GORJUS (32a) 4 May 06

A girl of very good type, unfortunately not enamoured of being showed - she made her dissatisfaction very clear, though to be fair it was mostly words. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm deep chin, level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set and of a good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Points a distinctly pale red, a touch of acne on the chin, lightly shaded warm white body, close coat of good texture. Excellent presentation. I confess I was much taken with her, and would had awarded a grand, but at the higher level she didn't quite make the grade, though it might have been different if she had been able to be a little more persuasive.

Oriental Fawn Adult

1+CC+BOB Greatorex's SPIRESHADOW MEWZISHUN F 9 Apr 07

A very wriggly adolescent of good type, though it took a while to calm her down sufficiently to come to that conclusion. Long wedge with a small pinch, top of head needing a fraction more width, large ears which were eventually set well. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a pale clear green. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a good fawn with some evidence of pinkness though it had to fight the hall lighting to be seen, almost sound to the roots along the spine and quite sound elsewhere. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Tortie Neuter

1+PC+BOB Beck's TEGATCO CINNAGAEA (37m) FN 29 Oct 06

A girl of good type and quite mature. Long even wedge needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a good clear green. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour a slightly dark warm cinnamon sound to the roots, well mingled with shades of red though ideally there would be more bright red in the mixture, tabby markings visible on the back legs but only in the red parts. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Turner's CH & GR PR MIDAMYST DANCINGSPANGLES (37e) FN 31 Jul 99

A lady of good type, a complete contrast in type. Short even wedge a little broad at the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile but angled down from the brow, firm deep chin, bite marginally under. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Colour a pleasing mix of dense black and shades of red, with plenty of bright red present. Close coat a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Shaded Neuter

1+PC+BOB Clements's LUNATORA SILVERSTARDUST (43s) MN 23 Apr 07

An lad of good type, not too keen to be handled and with a fine line in invective. Longish wedge with a small pinch, very good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, chin deep but ebbs slightly, level bite. Eyes of good shape though he was inclined to open them rather wide, well set and of a clear pale green. Long lean body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs a fraction to balance. Colour a dense black, good clear silver undercolour a little over half way up the hairshaft, still leaving two to three bands of ticking: I think the silver has developed further since I last saw him, giving the hope that in due course he will be an unquestionable shaded. Tarnished on muzzle and cheeks and most of the way up all legs, and a little on his underside, which did give me some doubts as to award of the certificate, but after all the SOP merely describes it as undesirable. Coat close and of good texture. Despite his preferences, handled reasonably well; excellent presentation.

Tabby Point Kitten, Male

1 Harrington's LOLUJA CASTINGASPELL (32/6) M 8 Sep 07

A very well grown lad of very good type. Long wedge, small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from being angled down slightly from the brow, firm deep chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a darkish cream showing some warmth at the base of ears and hocks, and with some evidence of brown overtones: I think it likely he will turn out to be apricot not cream, but given the hall lighting I was not prepared to be definite as yet. "M" half developed, clear thumbprints, single ribbon, faint leg bars, tail two thirds ringed. Very lightly shaded body, close coat a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tabby Point Kitten, Female

1+BOB Bowles-Gowdy's MAFDET ROSIE ROYCE (32/1) F 8 Nov 07

An extrememly promising kitten of excellent type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape though she did open them a little wide - my only real criticism. It did serve to display at its best her excellent deep blue eye colour. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Marked in a darkish warm seal: clear "M", thumbprints, single ribbon, good leg bars, tail half ringed, but with most of the rings rather indistinct. Lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Miscellaneous Classes

Debutante Adult

1 Bennett's ADAJAN SAYNT GEORGE (48 38d) M 23 Apr 07

A handsome lad of very good type and quite mature for his age. Longish strong even wedge, a little broad at the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin firm though a little shallow, bite scissored over. Expressive eyes of good shape and set, olive green in colour. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a rich red, showing quite a good spotted pattern, the spine line well broken, spots on the flanks showing some linkage, sound to the roots. Tail completely covered with clear rings except that there was a solid line along the top for most of the length. A distinctive isolated white patch on the forehead, blaze, splashes of white on the ear tips, white on the cheeks, the entire underside of the body, the whole chest and neck, most of the front shoulders, all legs more white than coloured, all in all about one half white to colour. A little white bleeding into the edges of the coloured areas. Close coat of very good texture, excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Esterford-Howard's MAPU MALACHITE (32/4) M 18 Jun 07

A promising adolescent needing to grow up but of sufficient maturity for his age, of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears, jowls starting to form. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour changed in my book from caramel to lilac but I think this to have been misguided: though his colour certainly is quite pale, there appear to be brownish overtones to be seen on mask, ears and tail, however since the hall lighting did seem to cause a brownish overcast on all dilute cats I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Clear "M", thumbprints and single ribbon, faint leg bars, tail fully ringed. Unshaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Breeders Kitten

1 Tarbox's TIJANMEEK MCLAREN (37fn) M 23 Aug 07

A very well grown lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile angled down a little from the brow, firm but slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, olive green in colour. Very long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, long tail to balance. Colour dark warm apricot sound to the roots, showing clear brownish overcast, and with an acceptably faint spotted pattern. Close coat of excellent texture; very relaxed and easy to handle; excellent presentation.

2 Fremont's LUNATORA ARIANASTAR (48 43s) F 25 Aug 07

A stylish kitten of good type, a little on the small side. Longish even wedge needing a little more width at the top, large ears set in line. Straight profile, chin ebbs a little, bite level. Eyes of good shape which she did open a little wide, well set and of an olive green colour. Longish firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a dense black, ticked pattern with clear silver undercolour a little over half way up the hair length. Attractively marked with white over the whole underside and well up the sides, some white on the upper body, all the chest and throat and shoulders, an inverted triangle on the face, most of the front legs and the rear paws, proportion of white to colour rather over half. Close coat of excellent texture. Not overkeen on being handled; excellent presentation. Ran the winner very close.

3 Hart's ADATESH ERIC (37a) M 24 Nov 07

A baby of reasonably good type, on the small side. Medium length even wedge needing more width at the top, large ears set in line. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a dark green showing an intermittent squint. Proportionate body, legs with largish paws, tail needs an extra half inch. Colour a slightly dark blue almost sound to the roots, coat of good length and texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Limit Kitten

1 Clements's LUNATORA SILVER MINSTREL (43bs) MN 14 Aug 07

A handsome lad of very good type, with rather a lot to say for himself. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of an olive green. Log firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour quite a good warm chocolate, despite the fact that he is silver, a ticked based shaded though the head markings are not the skullcap typical of a ticked tabby, clear silver undercolour between one half and two thirds of the way up the hair shaft, developing well for his age. Showing quite a degree of tarnishing, all the way up front and hind legs and on muzzle and cheeks. Handled well though rather wriggly; excellent presentation.

2 Richards's DEBIKAT LILYPAD (24c) F 1 Oct 07

A girl of reasonably good type. Medium length even wedge needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Longish firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a darkish lilac, the mask a little blue-toned, unshaded magnolia body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
