Northern Counties CC - 13 Sep 2008

Thanks to Mavis and the show committee for the invitation to judge at their new venue, quite a find - for an artificially lit sports centre it has quite the best light quality I can easily bring to mind. A pity that a show in Scotland the following week seemed to have caused a distinct drop in the Siamese and Oriental entry, though what there were were of good quality - particularly the Siamese kittens which I did not get to judge. Thanks to Pat Tegg for stewarding for me - not exactly experienced in handling orientals (though not completely new either), she did well, and I hope there'll be another time.

Open Classes

Siamese Imperial Grand Champion, Male

IGCC Evans's GR CH ABICASA THEGYPSYBARON (24n) 6 Sep 02

A handsome balanced lad of very good type and with an absolutely outstanding temperament. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Tiny dip in profile now, chin ebbs slightly but has depth, level bite boasting only one upper incisor. Eyes of very good shape and set of a brilliant blue which I suppose for perfection could be a fraction deeper. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs a fraction to balance. Points of a good lilac based caramel, showing distinct sludgy overtones, a slightly paler patch due to treated stud tail at the base of his tail and slight ghost rings further down, lightly shaded off white body. Close coat of excellent texture; excellent temperament and presentation. Not perfect (but that what cat is) but easily meeting the criteria for this highest of awards.

Siamese Grand Champion, Female

GCC Bauerfeind's CH SHIMILEETA ALWAYSONMYMIND (32/1) 6 Aug 05

An attractive girl of good type. Longish even wedge which she tries to spoil by puffing out her whisker pads, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a small bump on the nose, firm chin, level bite lacking lower incisors. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good deep blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Marked in a very good warm seal: clear "M", thumbprints, single ribbon, adequate leg bars, tail half covered in widely spaced rings, with some more very fuzzy ones towards the base. Moderately shaded body which looks better thanks to the underlying ticked pattern, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Res GCC Harvey's CH ADVIAM PINUP POPPY (32/1) 19 Nov 05

A girl of good type. Longish wedge with a slight pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, chin ebbs slightly, level bite. Eyes of good shape, set a fraction straight, of a good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Well marked in a distinctly dark seal, clear "M", thumbprints, double ribbons, good leg bars, tail two thirds ringed. Moderately shaded warm cream body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Not that much between these two girls, but in the end the better colour of the winner was the deciding factor.

Oriental Cream/Apricot Kitten, Male

1+BOB Simpson's WESTGARTH STORMCAT (37fn) 8 May 08

A very well grown kitten of good type. Long wedge needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Well set eyes of good shape though opened rather wide when out, of a muddy olive green - she did intermittently turn the left eye in. Long firm body, long legs with large paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a promising apricot, sound to the roots, dark, warm toned and showing some signs of brownish overtones. Close coat of excellent texture. Superb temperament, excellent presentation.

Seal Point Neuter, Female

1+PC+BOB Webster's CH NANPEMA SEALOFAPPROVAL 2 Nov 05

A girl of good type, lacking in self-confidence. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape though rather full, well set of a good depth of blue at the centre but rather paler towards the rim. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Colour a good seal, the paws rather brindled, moderately shaded body still showing adequate contrast. Coat of good length but a little harsh in texture, excellent temperament and presentation.

A substantial lad of good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large tufted ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set needing a little more depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Well marked in a darkish warm chocolate: clear "M", thumbprints, double ribbons, good leg bars, tail fully ringed. Lightly shaded warm ivory body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A large lad of good type. Long wedge, a little overlong in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin ebbs slightly, bite level though lacking most incisors. Eyes of good shape and set needing more depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Marked in a good warm chocolate: clear "M", thumbprints, single ribbon, faint leg bars, tail one third ringed. Very lightly shaded very warm toned body, close coat of good texture. Shy and a little tense, excellent presentation. Just lost out on type and markings, despite his better colour.

Oriental Debutante Adult

1 Lumsden's KYOMI GALAHAD (37n) M 5 Dec 07

A handsome lad of good type, looking very mature for one just adult. Longish well balanced wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, very firm chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a clear bright green. Long substantial body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a good lilac-based caramel with clear brownish overtones, almost sound to the roots. Close coat of good texture; excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Armitage's CHAPELROSE OHMEOMY (37a) M 13 Nov 07

A relaxed lad of very good type, but to my eye not yet looking adult. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good clear green. Small bump on the nose but profile otherwise straight, firm deep chin, level bite already missing a central incisor. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a distinctly dark blue, a little unsound on the upper body, coat of good length and texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. I think he has more potential than the winner, but at present with a lot of developing to do he just lost out.

3 Bauerfeind's TOGHAR TRUFFLES (29) F 16 Jul 07

Eyes of good shape and set, of a clear bright green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a rich warm cinnamon sound to the roots, well broken everywhere with shades of red, showing a pleasing degree of brightness, though I see that when I saw her three weeks ago at Teesside I did not think so, probably the difference that good lighting makes. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

An attractive kitten of good type, at first sight the winner of the class. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile with a shallow depression above the brow, which still has plenty of time to fill in. Chin ebbs and bite overshot. Eyes of good shape and set, of a clear palish green, showing a transient tendency to squint. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour glossy jet black sound to the roots, coat a fraction long along the back, of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Eyes of very good shape and set, of a good depth of blue.Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a good fawn, subtly broken with shades of warm cream. Unshaded body, close coat of good texture. Not in the best of moods by the time I came to judge her, excellent presentation.
