Teesside CC - 24 Aug 2008

Thanks to Veda and the show management team for the invitation to judge at this popular show, my first time here, and a busy day. Thanks also to Kat for coming specially to steward for me - she handled the cats very well and was good company - I look forward to the next time.

Open Classes

Siamese Grand Premier, Male

GPC Thorpe's GR PR JOHPAS SUNNY-JIM (32a) 16 Mar 06

A handsome strong lad of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, level bite without too many incisors. Expressive eyes of very good shape and set and a good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a good bright red, very lightly shaded body, close coat of a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Res GPC Saxon's PR SHIMILEETA STONECOLDCRAZY (32/3) 4 Oct 06

A handsome lad of good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large tufted ears. Small bump on nose but profile otherwise straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set needing a little more depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Well marked in a darkish warm chocolate: clear "M", thumbprints, double ribbons, good leg bars, tail fully covered with widely spaced rings. Very lightly shaded warm ivory body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Blue Adult, Female

1+CC+BOB Corby & Dolan's CH IKISHIROO KIRASH TAMASIN 30 Apr 07

A girl of good type, of good maturity for her age. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set a good green in colour. Long body, long legs with neat paws, well tapered tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a darkish blue, looking better out of the pen than in, almost sound to the roots. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Shaded Kitten, Female

1+BOB Gibbon's SAITAN MISS TEASE (43b) 28 Apr 08

A pretty baby of good type, definitely overawed by what I imagine was her first show. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape though a little full: sorry, I find I have no note of the colour, though I certainly found it acceptable. Proportionate body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Pattern colour darkish chocolate with a pleasing warmth, very good bronze ground, clear ticked pattern but the paler undercolour already reaching about half way up the hair shaft. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament despite her nervousness; excellent presentation.

Oriental Red Neuter, Male

1+PC+BOB Halliday's TOGHAR TERRACOTTA 16 Jul 07

A handsome lad of very good type, if lacking in the last degree of maturity (which at his age is hardly to be expected). Long wedge with minimal pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, olive green in colour Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a rich red sound to the roots, free of tabby pattern on the upper sides and back, and showing an acceptable degree of spotted pattern on the lower sides. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Spotted Neuter, Male

1+PC+BOB Nelson's PR TIDLYPOO JUSTIN TYME (38d) 25 Feb 06

A lad of good type. Medium length wedge, a little short in the muzzle, good width at the top, large ears set fractionally high. Straight profile, firm though slightly shallow chin, bite scissored over and missing the extreme right upper incisor which gave it a misleading first impression of being twisted. Eyes of good shape and set of an olive green hue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Pattern colour a rich red, paler ground colour but not pale enough to give very good contrast, good facial markings, fully ringed tail though with a lot of agouti mixed with the rings towards the base, very well broken spine line, quite clearly defined spots with little agouti invasion and sound to the roots, just a little linked on the right side. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Lilac Point Adult, Male

BOB Caney's CH MERRYTAIL MYHINENI 6 Feb 07

A handsome mature lad of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin deep but ebbs slightly, bite scissored over. Eyes of good shape and set, would ideally have more depth of blue. Long slender muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail fine and needs an extra inch to balance. Points a good lilac though the tail rather fawn, almost unshaded body. Very close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Lilac Point Adult, Female

1 (CC N/A) Corby & Dolan's IKISHIROO BEEBY 9 Sep 07

A girl of fair type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, needing more width at the top, large ears set rather high. Profile straight apart from a bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good basic shape but rather full, of rather a pale blue. Medium length plump body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch or two to balance. Points a dark rather blue-toned lilac, lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent presentation, handled quite well though of uncertain temper.

Tortie Point Kitten

1+BOB Moaks's ADATEAM MIAMO (32b8) 16 May 08

A pretty baby of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile apart from a shallow depression above the brow, not a problem at this age. Firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set though she did open them rather wide when out of the pen, of a good depth of blue. Proportionate firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a good lilac based caramel showing promise of sludgy overtones, rather sparsely broken with apricot yet to develop the warmer shades, an off-centre blaze on the mask and a distinctive pale tip to the tail. Unshaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Moaks's ADATEAM ELJAIMO (32b2) 16 May 08

An almost equally pretty baby of very good type, just losing out to her litter sister. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of an adequate depth of blue, she also held them rather wide when out of the pen. Proportionate firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail with a small terminal irregularity. Points a dark blue, well broken with shades of cream which were in places suspiciously warm in tone. Lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Chocolate Point Neuter, Male

1+PC+BOB Kelly's ADSETAM SUNLEY SUNG 3 Oct 06

A lad of good type. Long wedge needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight but a little raised between the eyes, chin has a charming beard but ebbs slightly, bite level. Eyes of good shape and set and of a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a darkish chocolate but with a very good degree of warmth, some brindling to all points, worst on the mask but still acceptable, unshaded warm ivory body, close coat of good texture, showing evidence of plucking on the centre of the back. Superb temperament, excellent presentation.

2 Turvey's PR STYPERSON BIJOU 7 Aug 06

A handsome lad of good type. Long wedge needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, the blue I would prefer a little deeper. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a very dark though warm chocolate, the tail and ears approaching seal, the other points a little brindled, lightly shaded coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Though for type I preferred him to the winner, his colour would for me have precluded award of a certificate so he had to come second.

Miscellaneous Classes

Junior Oriental Adult

1 Samphier's EIREACHDAIL FEELIN GROOVY (48d) M 23 May 07

A very handsome mature lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm if a little shallow chin, bite scissored over. Expressive eyes of very good shape and set: in his pen, the colour appeared to lack green, but when taken out, there was a surprising change to a muddy olive green, which though far from ideal was at least acceptable. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a slightly dull but rich red, showing a slightly clearer spotted pattern on the sides than I should prefer. White to the whole underbody and partly up the sides, chest, most of the front legs up to the shoulders, most of the hind legs extending over the back at the base of the tail, inverted "V" to the head with a small red patch by the nose, white to the base of the ears and a line from the side of the neck via the left ear to mid forehead, all in all a little over half white to colour. A little bleeding of white into the boundaries of the coloured areas. Close coat of excellent texture; excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Holdsworth's BILLSTES TIFFANY (37m) F 9 Jul 07

An impressive mature-looking girl of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of a clear pale green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a rich warm cinnamon sound to the roots, well broken everywhere with shades of red, though particularly in a cinnamon I would like to see a rather brighter shade of red in the mixture. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

3 Hirst's CH TOGHAR PASTICHE (37h) F 1 Jul 07

Senior Oriental Adult

1 Simpson's CH WESTGARTH DRESSTOIMPRESS (37g) F 11 Apr 05

An impressive girl of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a good clear green. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a darkish blue sound to the roots well mingled with shades of an excellent cool-toned cream. Close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AC Oriental Limit Kitten

1 Lumsden's KYOMI GALAHAD (37n) M 5 Dec 07

A handsome lad of good type, almost adult and already looking it. Longish well balanced wedge, Good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, very firm chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a good bright green. Long body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a good lilac-based caramel with very clear brownish overtones, though in this he may have been fortunate in the lighting, not quite sound to the roots. Close coat of good texture; excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Samphier's EIREACHDAIL CALYPSO (48 38) F 13 May 08

A pretty baby of reasonably good type. Longish wedge needing a little more width at the top, large ears set a fraction high. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape though rather full, well set, of a pale rather grayish green. Proportionate firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Well defined jet black spotting on a grayish ground, good head markings, well broken spine line, body spotting showing little linkage but substantial agouti invasion. A white stripe covering about the central two thirds of the underside, front legs up to the shoulders and meeting in a narrow band over the shoulders, legs up to the middle of the outer thing, inverted "V" to front of head, white line from left shoulder to base of ear: very borderline one third white to colour. A little bleeding into the boundaries of the coloured areas. Close coat of good texture; excellent temperament and presentation.

AC Oriental Visitors Kitten

1 Lumsden's KYOMI GALAHAD (37n) M

Colour does not conform Samphier's EIREACHDAIL IVEGOTRHYTHM (48 40pt) F 13 May 08

A promising girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile apart from a shallow depression above the brow, not a problem at this age, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a bright blue which I should prefer a little deeper. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. The base colour is definitely a darkish seal, but I am unsure whether she is actually tortie or not (for which reason I did not wrong colour her, for which I would need to say what colour she was): there were just a couple of splashes on the paw pads which could be tortie mingling, though as she appeared to have a good proportion of white patching would be more likely. No doubt all will become clear in due course. Tabby markings evident mainly in the completely ringed tail. White from the nose in a broad stripe over the top of the head and along the front third of the back, covering most of the ears, to the whole underbody, paws mostly coloured but the rest of the front legs mostly white, running up to the shoulders and over the back, white also extending a good way up the hind legs: rather over one third white to colour. Close coat of excellent texture, excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Breeders Neuter

1 Stafford's GR CH & GR PR HEYBURY TITIAN RED (43ds) FN 8 Jun 99

A lady of good type, not really showing her age. Longish wedge, a little broad in the muzzle and with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin with level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, pale green in colour. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a slightly pale red, not surprising in a silver, clear pale silver undercolour approaching two thirds of the length of the hair shaft, with an even colouring on the surface. Close coat of excellent texture; excellent temperament and presentation.

3 Jones's CHANGSAI VALENTINO (24) M 14 Feb 08

Siamese Debutante Kitten

1 Moaks's ADATEAM MAXIMO (32fn) M 16 May 08

A very well grown baby of very good type, litter brother to the two tortie point kittens (as indeed was the other apricot point - that was some litter!). Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile apart from a shallow depression above the brow, firm deep chin, lower incisors yet to come through, but it looks as though when they do the bite will be marginally undershot. Eyes of very good shape and set which ideally would be a slightly deeper blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points reasonably well developed for the age and showing some warmth, unshaded body. Close coat of good texture, wonderful temperament, a real charmer, excellent presentation.

2 Moaks's ADATEAM MOKIMO (32fn) M 16 May 08

A very similar kitten to his litter brother, though not of quite such good type, eyes fuller and a little paler, lower incisors fully through and bite scissored under, small irregularity at tail tip. Just as friendly though.

3 Brock's KEVELS PURRSONALITY (24) F 21 Dec 07

Siamese Limit Neuter

1 Rycraft's DRESTOTHRIL MISSLETOE (32b1) FN 3 Jun 06

An attractive girl of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set which she did tend to open rather wide, of a very good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a dark seal all well broken, with plenty of bright red on the ears, mask rather sparsely broken. Moderately shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament though inclined to grumble, excellent presentation.

2 Jones's DIAMONDGEEZER STARMAN (32/3) MN 19 Dec 04

A lad of reasonably good type. Longish wedge with rather a broad muzzle, needing more width at the top, large ears set in line. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a reasonable depth of blue. Marked in a very dark chocolate though not without warmth: clear "M", thumbprints, double ribbons, good leg bars, tail two thirds ringed. Moderately shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent presentation, by the time we reached him he was rather fed up with the notion of being handled.

Siamese Maiden Neuter

1 Thorpe's JOHPAS DROPDREDGORGEOUS (32a) MN 19 Oct 07

The highlight of my day and aptly named. An extremely handsome lad of excellent type, of astonishing maturity for a 10-month old. Long well balanced wedge with good width, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin with level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set and of a very good deep blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points of a rather pale shade of red, my only criticism, but in the context of the whole cat, who cares (and anyway, they could improve). Unshaded body, close coat of excellent texture, excellent temperament and presentation. While not wishing to tempt fate, I see no reason why he should not achieve the highest honours in short order.
