Wessex C.C. - 1 Mar 2008

Thanks to Gill, Elaine and the show management team for the invitation to judge at a well filled show with some quality exhibits. Thanks to Joan for her excellent assistance as steward - her first time with me, I look forward to the next.

Open Classes

Imperial Grand Premier, Male

IGPC Gray's GR PR LYNNOX BOBBY DAZZLE (24n) 15 May 03

A large impressive lad of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, large ears set just fractionally low. Profile a fraction raised at the brow, firm deep chin, level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set, and a very good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Points of a good dingy lilac-based caramel, tail slightly darker but matching in tone. Lightly shaded off white body, close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament though quite vocal; excellent presentation.

Res IGPC Wallace's GR PR ROZANDEN SIMBA MFALME (32a) 12 Apr 03

A lad of very good type. Long wedge with a marginal pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm though slightly shallow chin, bite with few lower incisors left but level. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a slightly pale red, very lightly shaded warm white body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament though a little lacking in self-confidence - he showed himself much better later in the day - excellent presentation.

Blue Point Adult, Male

1 (CC N/A) Hendren's ADSETAM TIGERS-BLUEBOY 1 May 07

An adolescent of reasonably good type, at present lacking masculinity and muscle. Longish wedge with rather a pinch and quite a broad muzzle, needing more width at the top, well set ears of adequate size. Straight profile, firm chin though the front of the head showing a less than vertical line, bite level. Eyes of good basic shape though a little full, well set, of a good depth of blue. Longish lean body, the manubrium rather prominent, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Points a darkish blue, the tail darker, lightly shaded cool toned body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Blue Point Adult, Female

1+CC+BOB Sibley's ABICASA PRINCESS ABIGAILLE 13 Feb 07

A nicely mature girl of good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, large ears of good shape though she did tend to bonnet them. Tiny dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, with an inscrutable expression, of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a darkish blue, the tail a little darker but still acceptable, body moderately shaded but cool-toned underneath, close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament though very vocal, excellent presentation.

Chocolate Point Adult, Male

Considered for BOB, but not awarded: Duncan's CH MALIKASIAM EMIR HARITH 11 Mar 05

A mature lad of good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, chin ebbs significantly, bite scissored over. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a very dark chocolate, still with a degree of warmth, tail not quite so dark but very brindled and showing ghost rings, even the legs dark, with some ghost barring on the front legs. Lightly shaded ivory body, very shaded over the back of the head though still just about showing contrast. Close coat of good texture; good temperament though unkeen to be handled for any length of time, excellent presentation. In my view both the points colour and chin precluded the award of Best of Breed.

Lilac Point Adult, Female

1+CC+BOB Martin's CH ABICASA CARMINA BURANA 13 Feb 07

A girl of very good type, and of a maturity commensurate with her age. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, large ears set a fraction low. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set, of a very good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points of good lilac showing pinky overtones, tail a little lighter but matching in tone. Very lightly shaded magnolia body, close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Twyford's KITAMBER MAIA 18 May 07

A girl of good type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, needing more width at the top, large ears set in line. Small dip in profile, slightly shallow chin level bite. Long adolescent body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Points quite a dark lilac, colour a little sludgy under the rear paws and a hint of a brownish overtone to the mask suggesting that in due course her colour might turn out not to be lilac, but with insufficient evidence at present to be sure. Lightly shaded off-white body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Balinese Adult, Female

1+CC+BOB Whitby's PIPPASTRO PINK PANTHER (61n) 23 Apr 07

A well developed girl of good type. Longish wedge with a tiny pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin ebbs slightly, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set though she did tend to open them rather wide at times, of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a very good pale lilac-based caramel, very lightly shaded off-white body. Coat a fraction short to neck and shoulder, of good length elsewhere, and very good length under the body, of an excellent soft silky texture. Very good plume, some ear and foot furnishings. Excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Pinington's SPINDIAMOND SONGSUNGBLUE (61p) 22 Aug 06

A girl of good type, but rather diminutive and immature-looking despite her age. Well balanced medium length head though the ears would ideally be a fraction larger. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of quite a deep shade of blue but a little dull. Long rather lightweight body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Coat a little short over neck and shoulders, of acceptable length elsewhere, of a very good soft silky texture. Good plume, well furnished feet, some ear furnishings. Points a good blue-based caramel all well broken with shades of apricot, some deep apricot in evidence. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Cream Point Kitten, Male

1 (BOB N/A) Emmens's JOHPAS JACKSPARROW 5 Sep 07

A promising lad of very good type and colour. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape, set a little straight as yet, needing significantly more depth of colour and very pale at the rim. Long firm body, long legs with largish paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a very good pale cool-toned cream except for the tail which was a fraction darker (but still cool). Almost unshaded creamy white body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Sorry not to award BOB, but I felt the eye colour precluded it.

Miscellaneous Classes

Oriental Breeders Adult

1 Boddy's SEETEEZ DRESSED TOIMPRESS (37e) F 9 Apr 07

An attractive adolescent girl of good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set though she was inclined to open them wide while out of the pen, colour a slightly dull green. Long slender body, needing to muscle up more but forgiveable at her age, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Colour a dense black very attractively mingled with shades of an excellent bright red, almost sound to the roots, close coat of a very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Gingell's QUINTRAL WHICKERMAN (62 43ns) M 6 Oct 06

A lad of good type, but distinctly lacking in masculinity. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set ears needing to be a fraction larger to balance. Small dip in profile and bump on the nose, chin ebbs rather, bite scissored over. Eyes of good shape and set though a little full, of a good green. Longish strong body, long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra inch or two to balance. Colour a very good lilac-based caramel, with clear brownish overtones everywhere, undercolour a good clear silver over the back, rather greyer lower down the body, extending up to about two thirds of the hair length in places and more than half everywhere, little discernible surface pattern. Coat of a good length, but the texture not correct for the breed, lacking silkiness and with too much resistance to the touch, though it did flow well, frilling rather round the neck, good plume, good foot and ear furnishings. Excellent temperament and presentation.

3 Hodder's DREAMJAX MIAH (29) F 11 May 07

An adolescent of reasonably good type. Short wedge with rather a pinch, needing a little more width at the top, large ears set in line. Straight profile, chin ebbs, bite level. Eyes rather full, of a slightly pale green. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour rather a dark chestnut though not without warmth, distinctly unsound and showing ghost tabby markings, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament though inclined to wriggle, excellent presentation.

Oriental Non-Breeders Adult

1 Ralph's FIROUSI FU-MANCHU (48 40) M 1 Jan 07

A strong lad of good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, large ears held permanently bonneted. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, but rather deep set and haws up slightly, of quite a good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a dark warm seal, moderately shaded body. White almost completely covering the underside, a splash on the back, complete over the neck, chest and throat, a reasonable amount on the mask and white ear tips, total amounting to a little under half white to colour. Unfortunately, besides some bleeding of white into the boundary of the coloured areas, there were quite a few scattered white hairs inside the coloured areas on mask and ears. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Non-Breeders Kitten

I found this class very difficult, with two of the exhibits having significant colour problems, and the other of lesser type, leaving them very close -second and extra second placings would have been fairer if they had been allowed.

1 Whitby's PIPPASTRO MAGIK FLUTE (62 43fn) MN 7 Jul 07

A lad of excellent type, a little more masculine in appearance than when I last saw him, but still something of a conundrum as to colour. Medium length well balanced wedge, good width at the top, very well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape, though he was inclined to open them rather wide when out of the pen, of a clear olive green. Long svelte body, long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra inch or two for balance. Coat I should prefer longer, but feel it is of sufficient length given his age, superb soft silky texture, plume quite well developed; some ear and toe furnishings. Colour now clearly a hot apricot to tail, hind legs and rear two thirds of the body, but the remainder still cool toned though showing faint brownish overtones. Undercolour about two thirds of the way up the hair shaft except along the back where there is little undercolour in evidence; little visible tabby pattern. Excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Ralph's KARAMIST MOIPETITE STAR (37m) F 25 Jun 07

A large girl of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Eyes of good shape and set, of a good clear green. Colour a slightly dark warm cinnamon well mingled everywhere, with plenty of bright red in the mixture, almost sound to the roots, coat of good length and texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

3 Hutchings's WILLHAVETODO HURRYUPHARRY (37a) M 4 Aug 07

Although of very good type, forced into third place because of his extremely dark blue and distinctly unsound colour.

Maiden Neuter

1 Clothier's KASSALIC ROBIN REDFEET (37d) MN 7 May 07

A handsome adolescent of good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, bite scissored over. Eyes of good shape and set of a dark olive green. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a good rich red almost sound to the roots, showing only a very faint linked spotted pattern, coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Harper's BELGARION MAGICAL MYSTERY (24n) MN 28 Nov 06

A lad of reasonably good type. Longish wedge with rather a pinch, weak in the muzzle, needs more width at the top, large ears set in line. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, and of a good depth of blue. Longish well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail rather short. Points a lilac based caramel, which I should prefer to show more evidence of brownish overtones, lightly shaded off-white body. Close coat of good texture; excellent temperament and presentation.

Limit Neuter

1 Lowell's SUSPIRIA WILLIAM BECKFORD (37k) MN 21 Apr 07

A strong lad, looking very mature for his age, of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good basic shape though a little full, well set and of a clear vivid green. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a darkish warm cinnamon almost sound to the roots, showing a faint ghost classic pattern; close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

2 Lyons's GENTANTIQUE ANTAR (37r) MN 4 Aug 06

Another strong lad of good type. Long slightly pinched wedge, needing a little more width at the top, large ears set in line. Straight profile, firm chin, bite scissored over. Eyes of good shape and set, of a clear fairly deep green. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour rather a dark fawn, showing some unsoundness, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
