Cheshire Area CC - 14 Nov 2009

Thanks to Pat, Dorothy and the show committee for the invitation to judge at this friendly show, this year back to clashing with the Supreme and the entry reduced in consequence, but not in quality. As usual, the lighting in this hall gave a brownish cast to the colour of all dilute cats, so I had to give the benefit of the doubt to some who appeared arguably to be caramel.

Open Classes

Siamese/Balinese Imperial Grand Premier, Male

IGPC Thorpe's GR PR JOHPAS DROPREDGORGEOUS (32a) 19 Oct 07
An extremely handsome lad of excellent type, looking better than ever today. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good set and slightly exaggerated shape, of a good depth of blue. Very long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Points undeniably a paler red than I would ideally like, but well within the bounds of acceptability - in fact, I think they looked better than I have seen them before. Unshaded warm toned body, coat a fraction long but of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Best Siamese exhibit today I note, which he well deserved.
Res Copeland's GR PR FLOWERDEW GTX PECTATIONS (24) 2 Feb 08
A large lad of excellent type, whom I have not judged since he was just adult, and he's certainly fulfilled the promise he had then. Long wedge, for me a little overlong in the muzzle, very good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm if slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a bright blue which would ideally be a little deeper in tone. Very long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a dense warm seal, body moderately shaded still giving good contrast, though there I would prefer slightly more warmth. Superb temperament, excellent presentation. Close coat of very good texture, BUT unfortunately he has been plucking himself in an elongated oval on the lower back, with the right side still very sparse, and fur having grown back on the left side but in a very dark colour, if not quite the black that might have been feared. I did seriously consider whether this precluded award of a certificate, and decided that it did not.

Siamese/Balinese Imperial Grand Premier, Male

IGPC Robinson's GR PR HIGHIQ HAGGIS (32/3) 19 Oct 07
A handsome lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Really impressive (and expressive) well set eyes of good shape and good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Marked in a dark warm chocolate, with the tail significantly darker: clear "M" and thumbprints, one and a bit ribbons, good leg bars, tail almost completely ringed. Body lightly shaded over hips and along spine, with good warmth of tone. Short coat, a little harsh in texture along the back though OK elsewhere, held a little open when we first met possibly because he was feeling the cold: at any rate, when I came back to look at him rather later it had much improved. Excellent temperament and presentation. Not a completely automatic decision at this high level, but in the end I concluded that he deserved the certificate, which I gather made him up to Imperial: congratulations. Later on my choice for Best Neuter and Best Siamese.

Oriental Grand Premier, Male

GPC Anderson's PR FIORDILISO EARL GREY (37a) 21 Jun 08
A large lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile angled down slightly from the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set though he does open them rather wide when out, of a clear pale green. Long well fed body which I should not like to see gain any more substance, Long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance and with a tiny something at the tip. Colour a darkish blue, completely sound and free of ghost markings, just a trifle long but of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 (Res GPC N/A) Lord's PR DRUIDSWAY BLACK PANTHER (37) 7 May 08
A handsome lad of very good type. Long even wedge with a small ridge at the rear, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set which he was inclined to open a bit wide, of a pale olive green. Unfortunately, he insisted on squinting at me, though I left and came back a time or two in the hope he might have thought better of it. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour glossy black sound to the roots, coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Such a pity about the squint: had it not been present, the placings would have been reversed (and he would have been awarded the GPC): not much of a consolation, I fear.

Oriental Grand Premier, Female

GPC Weaver's PR FOXYPAWS TILLY BUTTERCUP (37d) 9 Jun 08
A rather feisty lady of very good type. Long even wedge, needing just a fraction more width at the top for perfect balance, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set olive green in colour. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour a slightly paler red than I should ideally prefer, but with a good brightness of tone, sound to the roots, showing a fairly indistinct spotted pattern over the body. Coat close and of excellent texture. Excellent presentation; handled well despite the language.

Oriental Lilac Adult

1+CC+BOB Harrison's FULLMOON BEAU-JANGLE F 14 Apr 08
A rather shy girl of good type. Longish wedge, a little broad in the muzzle and needing a fraction more width at the top, well set large ears. Very slight dip in profile, the nose a little prominent and spoiling the vertical line of the front of the head, firm chin, bite scissored over. Eyes of very good shape, set a little straight, of a bright mid green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour quite a good lilac if rather lacking in pinky tones, coloured to the roots, coat close lying and of excellent texture. Excellent presentation and handled well once persuaded to relax.

Oriental Longhair Adult

1+CC+BOB McParlin's PIPPASTRO BLUE VELVET (62 43a) F 12 May 07
An attractive girl of good type. Strong medium length even wedge head, good width at the top, well set ears which to be picky I should prefer a little larger. Small dip in profile, firm deep chin,. Level bite. Expressive eyes of good shape and set of a clear pale green. Long well fed body, long legs with surprisingly neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a darkish blue, very pale undercolour pushing two thirds of the way up the hair shaft, except along the spine, the body still showing a faint linked spotted pattern. Coat of quite good length and excellent texture, well furnished ears and toes, good plume. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Tortie Kitten

1+BOB Brownrigg's HEMLOCK JIGSAW PUZZLE (37e) F 12 Jul 09
A pretty girl of good type. Medium length wedge, small teething pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set once she had been persuaded to relax, of a good green. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, good length of very bony tail. Colour jet black mingled with shades of red, sound to the roots, with plenty of foreground red in evidence though it was on the dull side. Coat close and of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Spotted Tabby Kitten

1 (BOB N/A) Saxon's TIJANMEEK FERRARIMEDENA (38fn) F 1 Jun 09
An girl of good type, colour changed from cream on the day (as when I met her recently at Yorkshire) but this time that definitely looked the right choice. Longish even wedge needing more width at the top, large ears held a little high. Straight profile, chin ebbs a little, bite level. Eyes of good shape set, of a clear olive green. Colour pale but showing signs of brownish overtones, contrasting quite well with a paler ground colour. Good head markings and lines running over the neck but the back solid extending a little down the sides. Good leg bars, markings on the hind legs breaking into spots at the top of the thighs. One broken necklace, spots on the back half to two thirds of the body showing good definition with a little linkage and some agouti invasion, well defined spots to the whole of the tummy, but over the front of the body only unbroken lines were visible, markings sound to the roots. Close coat of excellent texture. Sweet-tempered, excellent presentation.

Oriental Longhair Kitten

1+BOB Fullerton's STARAPPEAL EL CID (62 36) M 26 Jun 09
A very promising, well-grown baby of very good type. Strong medium length wedge with a small pinch, very good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and of a bright palish green. Long firm body, long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour jet black, clear silver undercolour covering from half to two-thirds of the hair base, with some silver visible at the surface as is practically inevitable in a smoke longhair. Coat of promising length for the age and of really superb texture, toe furnishings developing, good ear furnishings with the beginnings of fronds to the rear, plume developed in keeping with the age. A lovely confident and friendly chap, presentation excellent; unfortunately, already too large for my pocket.

Oriental Black Neuter

1+PC+BOB Lord's PR DRUIDSWAY BLACK PANTHER MN
Here I have to confess to some lack of logic, since the fault which caused him not to be awarded the Grand should really have precluded award of the PC as well.

Oriental Lilac Neuter

1+PC+BOB Lord's IMP GR PR TENAJ PINK PANTHER MN 21 Sep 05
A handsome large lad of good type. Long wedge a little full in the muzzle, needing more width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin with level bite. Expressive eyes of good shape and set of a clear mid green. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a darkish lilac (with an apparent brown overcast which I disregarded) lacking in pinky tones. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Longhair Neuter

1+PC+BOB Fullerton's STARAPPEAL SCENE STEALER (62 43a) MN 25 Oct 08
A large lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set ears of a good size (though ideally, I should prefer them a little larger). Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a clear palish green. Long well fed body, long legs with large paws, tail almost of a length to balance. Coat of very good length, particularly under to body, and of an excellent texture, frilling a little round the neck, well furnished ears and paws, good plume. Colour a darkish blue, the oatmeal undercolour pushed half to two-thirds of the way up, but the surface spotted pattern very diffuse. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Webb's PIPPASTRO BLUE CALIFORNIA (62 43a) MN 17 Sep 08
Another lad very good type, though of very contrasting style. Strong medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a clear pale green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Colour a darkish blue with an oatmeal undercolour which in places is barely present and nowhere lifts the pattern colour very far leaving a spotted pattern fairly visible oin the lower body: while I cannot definitely say he is not shaded, but if he is he is not a good example (and if a spotted tabby distinctly unsound). Coat of good length without the others profusion, of excellent texture; good ear and foot furnishings, fairly good plume. Shay but handled well, excellent presentation.

Tortie Point Siamese Adult

1+CC+BOB Edwards's ADNIOAM SHAMELESS MIMI (32b1) F 13 Jan 09
A girl of good type, a little small but not unacceptably so for her age. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, quite good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm though slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of quite a good depth of blue. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour a darkish warm seal well broken with shades of read, with a pleasing degree of bright red in evidence. Lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Chocolate Point Siamese Neuter

1 (PC N/A) Price-Nation's NIZMAR LITTLE RICHIE MN 10 Dec 08
A pleasing youngster of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, large ears which he did tend to bonnet. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set; I should prefer slightly more depth of blue. Long firm body unfortunately with a fixed protruding xiphysternum which precluded award of the certificate, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Points of quite a good warm chocolate, the ears a little darker, tail and paws very brindled. Unshaded body of a good warm ivory colour. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Harrison's OWAISSA OZIMADANDIUS MN 18 Jan 07
A lad of reasonably good type, Long wedge, overlong in the muzzle, needing more width at the top, large ears set in line. Dip in profile, the line from tip of nose to chin well off the vertical though the chin has depth, bite level. Eyes of good shape and set, deep set, with a reasonable depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a dark chocolate showing some warmth, body lightly shaded over the hips. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Red Point Siamese Neuter

1+PC+BOB Quest's PR MEILLAND SIMPLY RED MN 20 Feb 06
A handsome lad of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin with level bite though few incisors. Eyes of very good shape set a little straight, of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with largish paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Points of quite a good bright red, unshaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Also considered for BOB Supersad's PR HEATHERBEC HOTSHOT MN 19 Feb 05
A lad of good type. Long even wedge a little broad in the muzzle with bump at the back of the head, needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a slightly pale shade of blue. Long well-fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Points a very good bright red, lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation,.

Tabby Point Siamese Neuter

1+PC+BOB Robinson's GR PR HIGHIQ HAGGIS (32/3) MN

Balinese Neuter, Male

1+PC+BOB Webb's PR PIPPASTRO BOLSHOI (61n) 7 Jun 08
A rather retiring handsome lad of very good type. Long wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, raised slightly at the brow, firm deep chin, level bite. His eyes were the only snag - though of basically good shape and set they were a little full, and appeared worse until he had been persuaded to relax, and I should definitely prefer them to have more depth of blue, though I judged this aspect to be just adequate. Long well-fed body, long legs with large paws, tail needing an extra couple of inches to balance. Points a good sludgy lilac-based caramel, lightly shaded body. Coat of good length and excellent texture, good foot and ear furnishings, with the bonus of streamers from the back of the ears. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Balinese Neuter, Female

1 (PC N/A) Webb's PIPPASTRO MARIINSKY (61b) 7 Jun 08
An attractive girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, angled down slightly from the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and quite a good depth of blue. Longish firm body, long legs with large paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Coat of quite good length and excellent texture, good plume, well furnished ears and paws and again streamers from the ears. Unfortunately, the mask and ears were of an extremely dark chocolate colour possessing some warmth, though the paws and tail were perfectly acceptable in colour. Very lightly shaded body, excellent temperament and presentation. I was sorry, but in my view the head colouring precluded award of the certificate.

Eyes of good shape and set, of a palish green. Longish firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail with a small terminal irregularity. Eyes of very good shape, set rather straight as yet, which while not pale would definitely benefit from more depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with large paws, balancing length of tail.
