Northern Counties CC - 13 Sep 2009

My thanks to Mavis and the Show Committee for the invitation to judge at this friendly show, this year with the unusual element of being on a Sunday, which certainly made the travelling easier. Thanks also to Anne Clay for making the journey to steward for me, which she did with great expertise and care for the exhibits.

Open Classes

Siamese/Balinese Imperial Grand Premier, Male

IGPC Thorpe's GR PR JOHPAS SUNNY-JIM (32a) 16 Mar 06
A large handsome lad of very good type. Longish wedge with minimal pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a small bump on the nose, firm deep chin, level bite lacking many incisors. Expressive eyes of very good shape and set and a good depth of blue though looking a little dull in the light today. Long muscular well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch or two to balance. Points a good bright red, lightly shaded body, close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Blue Point Siamese Adult, Male

1+CC+BOB Gibbon's SHARUE BLUE NEMESIS 3 Feb 04
A larger mature fellow of good type. Longish even wedge with quite heavy jowls, good width at the top, well set ears which were just large enough. Profile rather flat over the forehead and with a small dip below the brow, chin firm though a little shallow, bite level. Eyes of good shape set a little straight, of a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with large paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Points of quite a good blue colour, slightly on the dark side but still better than most. Body lightly shaded, a little heavier over the back of the head and neck, of a good cool tone. The snag for me was his coat, which though of good length was a little greasy in texture especially along the spine, and a little open though that did improve and I felt could be attributed to the hall temperature; a little more preparation would undoubtedly have helped, though on balance I felt he did deserve the certificate even so. Excellent temperament especially for a full male of his age; excellent presentation.

Seal Point Siamese Kitten, Male

1+BOB Fox's DRESTOTHRIL DEBUSSIE M 14 Mar 09
A promising lad of very good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, bite scissored over and showing double canines today. Eyes of very good shape and set and a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points of a good dense warm seal, lightly shaded warm-toned body. Coat close but a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Apricot Point Siamese Neuter. Male

1+PC+BOB Pearson's AMYDAY MERELY A MONARCH 18 Jul 08
A very handsome lad of excellent type who should go far. Long wedge, for me a little overlong in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, very firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good depth of blue. Very long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance the length of body. Points an outstanding dingy-toned apricot, I see only two weeks ago I thought them rather pale which just shows what a difference lighting can make. Lightly shaded body, coat close but a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament if a little shy, excellent presentation.
2 Geddes's FLUTTERBY SIRPURRSALOT 24 Mar 08
A handsome lad of very good type, definitely unlucky today - I would unhesitatingly have awarded a certificate to him had the other cat not been present. Longish even wedge, rather broad in the nose, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, bite scissored over. Eyes of very good shape and set, though a little widely spaced, of a good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch or two to balance. Points quite a good apricot showing clear brownish overtones, but suffering from comparison with his neighbour. Lightly shaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Superb temperament, living up to his name; excellent presentation.

AC Oriental Limit Kitten, Male

1 Brass's EMVADEA BLUE CZAR (37a) M 30 Mar 09
A lad of good type, not really enjoying his day. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and of a really impressive vivid green. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour a darkish blue sound to the roots, coat close and of good texture. Excellent presentation,

AC Oriental Junior Neuter

1 Hinchliffe's GR PR MYLYNN MUMBO JUMBO (62 36) MN 25 Jan 08
A large mature lad of excellent type. Longish well balanced wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, bite almost level. Eyes of very good shape and set though he does open them a shade wide at times, of a clear pale green. Long weighty body, long legs with large paws, tail needing an extra inch or two to balance. Coat of good length except along the upper back where it could be longer, of a superb soft silky texture and flowing well, well furnished paws, good plume, Colour a dense black, though the clear silver undercolour does push rather too far up the hairshaft in places and as a result he shows rather more pattern than is ideal, though to a degree this is inevitable in a longhair. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Halliday's GR PR TOGHAR MIDNITE MAJIK (37) 18 Oct 07
A handsome mature lad of very good type unfortunate in his competition. Long almost even wedge a little broad in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a clear mid green. Long well-fed muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Glossy black colour, sound to the roots, close coat a fraction harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Siamese Non-Breeders Adult, Male

1 Simpson's MYLYNN MATINEE IDOL (24b) 4 Jan 08
An impressive mature looking fellow of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin a little shallow and ebbs rather, bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set and impressive depth of blue for a chocolate point. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Points a darkish warm chocolate, a little brindled on the tail and paws, lightly shaded warm toned body. Close coat slightly harsh in texture, excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Shand's GR CH ANDALYN AMADEUS (24) 4 Jun 06
A lad who I have seen looking much better, today rather lightweight and lacking masculinity, though still of very good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm though slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction. Points a dark warm seal, body moderately shaded body a little cool in tone, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation

Siamese Non-Breeders Adult, Female

1 Evans's ROCHVALLEY BELLEOFTHEBALL (24n) 20 Oct 08
A girl of good type still rather kittenish in appearance. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, large ears which she does hold a little low. Eyes of good shape though opened a little wide at times, set a little straight, of good depth of blue. Straight profile, chin ebbs, bite marginally over. Medium length firm body, long slender legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Points a mid lilac-based caramel showing clear brownish overtones, unshaded off white body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Siamese/Balinese Debutante Adult, Female

1 Bull's SILKYSU SUMMER SOLSTICE (32b1) 21 Jun 07
An attractive mature girl of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance and rather blunt at the tip. Points a dark warm seal, all well broken with plenty of bright red in evidence, body moderately shaded but the contrast still perfectly adequate, coat a fraction long and a little dry. Excellent temperament without a hint of "tortieness", excellent presentation. A real surprise to find a two-year old of this quality in a debutante class.
2 Evans's ROCHVALLEY BELLEOFTHEBALL (24n)

Siamese Non-Breeders Kitten, Male

1 Fox's DRESTOTHRIL DEBUSSIE (24)

Siamese Non-Breeders Kitten, Female

1 Shand's MAFDET ROSE TINTED (32/1) 1 May 09
A promising baby of good type. Longish wedge with a slight pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm deep chin, bite scissored under. Eyes of excellent shape and set, I should prefer a slightly deeper shade of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing a little extra to balance. Marked in a good warm seal: "M" half formed, good thumbprints, double ribbons, good leg bars, tail three quarters ringed. Body with baby muddiness still to clear, a little cool in tone, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Siamese Non-Breeders Neuter

1 Thorpe's PR JOHPAS DROPREDGORGEOUS (32a) MN 19 Oct 07
I've said it all before, and recently at that, for type he is in my view the best Siamese neuter around, and while he is not without his faults - I would like his points a deeper red, and his eyes larger and not so deep set - for me they pale into insignificance. Excellent temperament too, knowing how to sell himself.
2 Pearson's AMYDAY MERELY A MONARCH (32fn) MN

Siamese/Balinese Senior Neuter

1 Thorpe's GR PR JOHPAS SUNNY-JIM (32a) MN
2 Saxon's PR SHIMILEETA STONECOLDCRAZY (32/3) MN 4 Oct 06
A large lad of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, a little broad in the muzzle, Good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set though I should prefer a little more depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with largish paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Well marked in a darkish but very warm chocolate: good "M", clear thumbprints and double ribbons, good leg bars, tail almost fully ringed. Lightly shaded body also very warm in tone, close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Arthur & Enid Burrows Memorial Class : AV Foreign/Oriental Adult

1 Phillips's MELKETER MISSLEPIDINA (76 30) F 27 May 08
Judged on condition and personality only, and a worthy winner with superb affectionate temperament, totally unimpressed by the threatening noises emanating from the pen next door. Soft dense coat of impressive ground colour I thought.
