SHCC of Scotland - 11 Apr 2009

Thanks to Sarah, Kate and the show management team for the invitation to judge and their hospitality, a shame that the hall was rather sparsely filled but I still had a busy day. Thanks to Wilma Morrison, quite a novice and outside her breed but she handled the cats well: I hope we can repeat the experience. Thanks also for the gift, I suppose inevitable since this was an Easter show but none the less welcome for that (and now alas but a happy memory).

Open Classes

Oriental Imperial Grand Premier Male

IGPC Cox's GR PR KHERAF RED HOTSHOT (37d) 26 May 06
A handsome large lad of very good type. Long even wedge good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin a little shallow, bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set of a very good green for a red series cat. Very long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail though long needs a little extra to balance the body length. Colour a good bright rich red sound to the roots, showing quite a heavy linked spotted pattern. Coat close and of excellent texture. Wonderful temperament, excellent presentation. I have to confess, his clarity of pattern did give me cause to question award of the certificate, but the SOP does say that it should not penalize an otherwise good cat, and certainly in all other respects he was deserving.

Siamese Imperial Grand Champion Male

IGPC Michie's GR CH HIGHIQ HIYA JI (24) 22 Mar 04
A handsome lad of very good type. Strong even wedge, a little longer than medium, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile slightly raised at the brow, and the line from nose to chin slightly less vertical than I should prefer, and the chin a little shallow, bite level though lacking quite a few incisors. Eyes of very good shape, slightly straight in set, of a good depth of blue. hard muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch and showing signs of treated stud tail at the base. His outstanding feature was his truly excellent warm seal points, so unusual these days, and lightly shaded very warm cream body; he was quite heavily shaded across the back of his heads and over his jowls, but still had adequate contrast there and it by no means amounted to a hood. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Res Shand's GR CH ANDALYN AMADEUS (24) 4 Jun 06
A lad of very good type, unlucky in his competition today. Longish wedge with a slight pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Almost straight profile, firm though slightly shallow chin, bite a little messy but level. Eyes of good shape and set and a good depth of blue though a little dull. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction. Points a dark seal with quite good warmth but suffering in comparison to his neighbour, moderately shaded body a bit cooler in tone than I should prefer, close coat of good texture. A little wary but handled well, excellent presentation.

Oriental Tortie Adult

BOB Linton's GR CH SHADOWSQUAD STARDUST (37g) 10 Mar 07
A girl of very good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Almost straight profile, firm deep chin, bite scissored over. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good clear green. Medium length firm body which I should prefer to see carrying more weight, long legs with neat paws, well tapered tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour a darkish blue, well mingled everywhere with shades of cool toned dark cream, sound to the roots. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent presentation, extremely friendly and calling frantically - no doubt the explanation for her lack of weight, but for all that her condition was excellent.

Oriental Spotted Male Neuter

1 (PC N/A) Rankin's DREAMCATCHER CHEROKEE (38b) 8 Dec 07
A lad of reasonably good type. Long wedge a little broad in the muzzle, needing a little more width at the top, well set ears would ideally be a fraction larger. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, a little full, of quite a good green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Marked in a darkish warm chocolate, sound to the roots, on a slightly cool ground: good scarab and thumbprints, multiple cheek ribbons, one complete and several broken necklaces, good definition to the small spots over shoulders and haunches, larger spots on the body rather linked, well ringed tail, spine not solid, with three lines from shoulders to tail base, but they showing no signs of breaking, my reason not to award the certificate. Close coat of good texture, a little shy but of excellent temperament, well presented.

Red Point Male Adult

1+CC+BOB Linton's FIORDILISO TAKEN ASREAD 20 Feb 08
A handsome lad of very good type, initially determined not to be handled and making his inclination very clear, but eventually we managed to persuade him otherwise if with ill grace. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, level chin with level bite inspection of which was interesting. Eyes of very good shape and set, of what appeared a good depth of blue though in a darker part of the hall his dilated pupils made it difficult to be sure. Long well fed muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points rather a pale red, moderately shaded body, coat a little long and slightly harsh in texture. Excellent presentation.

Caramel Point Male Adult

1+CC+BOB Robb's RIVANESS BERTIE WOOSTER 10 Mar 08
A handsome youngster of good type, and of adequate maturity for just over a year. Longish almost even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good depth of blue paling slightly towards the rims. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a dark blue-based caramel, showing enough brownish overtones to convince me of the latter, lightly shaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tabby Point Male Adult

1 (CC N/A) Michie's DEBIKAT JOSETHESPECIALONE (32/3) 1 Oct 07
An attractive lad of very good type, but unfortunately very effeminate. Beautifully balanced head, longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, bite level though the outer incisors angled forward slightly. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a good depth of blue. Firm rather insubstantial body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Marked in a darkish warm chocolate: good facial markings, leg bars faint but present, tail half ringed. Very lightly shaded warm toned body, coat a fraction long but of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. I do hope he develops more masculinity, with which he would be very impressive, but as it is at 18 months I did not feel able to award the certificate.

Tabby Point Female Adult

1 (CC N/A) Brash's RIVANESS MIZ PRISSY (32/2) 10 Mar 08
A timid girl of reasonably good type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, needing a little more width at the top, large ears set a little high. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good basic shape but distinctly full, to a degree which I find unattractive in a Siamese, though that did make it easy to see their good depth of blue. Long tubular body which I would like to see possessing more substance, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Well marked in a mid blue, some brownish overtones visible but the same went for all of the dilute cats present so I considered it an artifact of the lighting, good facial markings including thumbprints, very good leg bars, tail two thirds ringed, lightly shaded rather biscuity body. Handled well, excellent presentation.

Chocolate Point Male Kitten

1+BOB French's PALMIRA BEAJANGLES 5 Sep 08
A well grown lad of good type. Long wedge a little overlong in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, very firm slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape if a little small, set a little straight, of a good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points quite a good warm chocolate, unshaded warm toned body, coat a little long but of good texture. "Ditto" mark on his nose, often seen in chocolates, but in him rather more pronounced than usual. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Chocolate Point Female Kitten

1 Tosun's PALMIRA NERISSA 5 Sep 08
A girl of reasonably good type, as the date of birth suggested a litter sibling to the boy, but not very similar. Medium length wedge needing a little more width at the top, large ears set a little high. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good depth of blue. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points of a darkish warm chocolate, lightly shaded warm body, close coat of excellent texture. Rather a grumbler but handled well, excellent presentation.

Red Point Male Kitten

1+BOB Gibson's KHERAF REDSENTINEL 25 Sep 08
A talkative lad of good type. Longish almost even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small bump on the nose, profile otherwise straight, chin ebbs rather, bite level. Eyes of good shape though little small, set a little straight, of a reasonably deep blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, fine tail with length to balance. Points a good bright red, the body unfortunately already quite shaded, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tortie Point Female Kitten

1 (BOB N/A) Ross's MINIMESE SUPER SALLY (32b2) 29 Jul 08
A girl of reasonably good type. Medium length wedge with a bit of a pinch, needs rather more width at the top, large ears set in line. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good basic shape though rather full, well set, needing significantly more depth of blue, my main reason not to award BOB. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points of quite a good blue sparsely broken with shades of cool cream, lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Rather a grumbler but it was all talk, excellent presentation.

Tabby Point Kitten Female Kitten

1+BOB Brown's FISEPO THISLEWAY AURORA (32t8) 3 Dec 08
An extremely promising baby of very good type, perhaps just a little small though of a very tender age. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, which ideally would be a shade deeper in tone. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, long tail to balance. Markings in an early stage but just there, the colour as yet not well developed, and made more difficult to assess by the fact that there was a lot of subtle tortie mingling, but I think caramel is what it will in the end turn out to be, unshaded body, coat close and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Without wishing to temp fate, I think she has an extremely bright future.
2 Rothwell's RIVANESS PRINCESS SHADOW (32/8) 1 Aug 08
A girl of good type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set though a little full, of a good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Very well marked in a blue-based caramel, excellent facial markings including faint thumbprints, very good leg bars, tail two thirds ringed. Lightly shaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Rather shy but handled well, excellent presentation.
3 Robb's RIVANESS MARDI GRAS (32/8) 1 Aug 08
A very similar girl to her litter sister, differing principally in her head shape which was rather longer and a fraction narrow at the top: for me the shorter stronger wedge was preferable, but there was not too much in it. Her markings were if anything a little better than her sister's; otherwise, my notes read word for word the same.

Seal Point Female Neuter

1+PC+BOB Spence's SCOTMAR SIMPLY MAGIC 14 Sep 07
An impressive large girl of very good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of a good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Points a dark warm seal, fairly heavily shaded warm toned body still giving adequate contrast, close coat of superb texture. Not overkeen to be handled, excellent presentation.

Blue Point Female Neuter

1+PC+BOB Rothwell's CH SIMPLISIAM STARTARUMOUR 3 Jun 06
A girl of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, chin a little shallow but firm, level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set and of a good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, long tail with a small irregularity at the tip. Points quite a dark blue but still within the bounds of acceptability, moderately shaded body but a good cool tone under the shading.
Also considered for BOB Godwin's CH & GR PR GENETTA BLUE HYACINTH 18 Jul 03
A substantial girl of good type. Longish wedge needing slightly more width at the top, well set large. Small dip in profile, firm chin, bite almost level. Eyes of good shape and set, of a good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a good blue, lightly shaded cool-toned body looking a little warm-toned in the hall lighting, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
A classic case of colour against type for best of breed, in which type won out if not by much.
Spence's PR SCOTMAR CLASSIE LASSIE 9 Apr 07
A balanced girl of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set ears needing a little more size. Bump on the nose but profile otherwise straight, chin ebbs a little, bite level. Eyes of good shape, set rather straight, of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a darkish blue, lightly shaded body also appearing a little warm in tone. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

1+PC+BOB Mather's GR PR STATIONARY SCARLETSHADOW 7 Jul 05

Eyes of very good shape and set and good depth of blue. Very long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a very good bright red, lightly shaded warm white body, coat a fraction long and a little harsh in texture along the spine. Superb temperament; excellent presentation.

A handsome lad of very good type. Long even well balanced wedge, very good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin an level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and good depth of blue. Very long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Marked in an excellent bright red, quite the best of all the reds present, reasonably good facial markings, tail two thirds ringed though most incomplete, leg bars faint but definitely present. Lightly shaded body, coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. My choice for best Siamese, though I have to say that had Hiya Ji been eligible (he had not won his best of breed) the result might well have been different.
