Trans-Pennine Oriental & Siamese CC - 5 Dec 2009

Thanks to Joan, Barry and the show management team for the invitation to judge, my first time here and a bumper entry for the occasion of the first Championship show - good to see, especially when the quality was so high, even if it made for a busy day. Thanks to Richard for his sympathetic stewarding - the first time he has worked with me, and I look forward to the next.

Open Classes

Oriental Imperial Grand Premier, Male

IGPC Hinchcliffe's GR PR MYLYNN MUMBO JUMBO (62 36) 25 Jan 08
A large mature lad of excellent type. Strong medium length well balanced wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm deep chin, bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set though he does open them a shade wide, of a clear pale green. Long weighty body, long legs with large paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Coat of good length except along the upper back and shoulders where it could be longer, of a superb soft silky texture and flowing well, well furnished paws and ears, good plume, Colour a dense black, the clear silver undercolour covering about two thirds of the hair length, silver not visible on the surface except a little on the lower sides, and some on the face which is fairly inevitable. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 (Res IGPC N/A) Nelson's GR PR TIDDLYPOO JUSTIN THYME (38d) 25 Feb 06
A lad of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, large ears set fractionally high. Small dip in profile, chin ebbs rather, bite level lacking many incisors. Eyes of good basic shape though rather full, well set, a pale olive green in colour. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Pattern colour a rich red, ground colour somewhat paler but not giving very good contrast, good facial markings, body pattern showing some linkage to the sides, spine line well broken though into quite long sections on the lower back, well ringed tail. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. At this level, I'm afraid I found him a bit lacking in both type and pattern for the certificate.

Oriental Imperial Grand Premier, Female

IGPC Lee's CH & IMP GR PR WILLHAVETODO OUIJA BOARD (37p) 27 May 06
A very attractive mature lady of excellent type, one of my favourites with really nothing to fault except a lack of self-belief which makes her initial impact far less than it could be - today was one of her more retiring days. Longish well balanced even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears though she did persist in holding them flat for a while. Straight profile a little raised at the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set of a clear pale green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail could do with an extra fraction. Colour a very good dingy-toned lilac-based caramel sound to the roots, well mingled everywhere with shades of warm apricot, an attractive blaze to the nose. Coat close and of excellent texture. Shy but handled well, excellent presentation.

Oriental Grand Champion, Female

GCC Handley's CH FLOWERDEW FREEMA (37) 25 Jun 07
A girl of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, very firm chin, level bite lacking most incisors. Eyes of very good shape and set of a clear pale green. Long slender yet muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch for balance. Colour a glossy black sound to the roots, a few white hairs on the flanks. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Siamese Grand Champion, Female

GCC Brock's GR CH KARAMUSHI TUTI FRUITY (32b1) 4 Aug 07
An impressive mature lady of excellent type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape, set a fraction straight, with a good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a darkish warm seal well broken everywhere, with plenty of red in evidence, I would however have preferred it to be brighter in tone. Moderately shaded body still leaving more than adequate contrast, close coat a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Res GCC Jones's CH SARAMESE GOODLUCKCHARM (24c) 16 Aug 08
A girl of good type. Longish even wedge, good width, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin ebbs, almost level. Eyes of good shape and set, a little deep set, of a reasonable depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch. Points a darkish lilac lacking pinky tones in the hall lighting, unshaded body. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament if a little shy; excellent presentation.

Siamese Grand Premier, Male

GPC Thorpe's GR PR JOHPAS DROPREDGORGEOUS (32a) 19 Oct 07
An extremely handsome lad of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile except for a newly acquired bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and of a good depth of blue. Very long weighty muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch or two to balance. Points bright though paleish red. Unshaded warm toned body, coat close but a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Best Siamese exhibit again today - congratulations.
Res GPC Smout's PR KAMIK FIRECRACKA (32a) 18 Jul 08
An impressive youngster of excellent type, just a little fine and lacking the finish of the older boy, but time should cure that. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Tiny dip in profile, firm chin with level bite. Eyes of very good shape set a fraction straight, of a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a good rich bright red, unshaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Siamese Grand Premier, Female

GPC Stokes's IMP GR CH & IMP GR PR HELLFIRE HIPPYCHICK (32b2) 26 Nov 03
A mature lady of excellent type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile slightly raised at the brow, her only concession to her years, firm deep chin, level bite. Expressive eyes of excellent shape and set and very good depth of blue. Long strong well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction for balance. Points of a darkish blue all well broken in shades of cool cream, moderately shaded body, close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 (Res GPC N/A) Walker's PR SHIMILEETA WHATACHARMER (32/1) 4 Oct 06
A girl of good type. Medium length even wedge needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Prfoile angled down from the brow and with a dip beneath, firm but rather shallow chin, level bite lacking incisors. Eyes of good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Marked in a darkish warm seal, good facial markings, fairly good leg bars and tail rings. Moderately shaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. While I would have been happy to award an ordinary certificate, to me she lacked the bit extra necessary at the higher level.

Oriental Bicolour Adult

1+IC+BOB Ellis's EIREACHDAIL MAZPAHSMOSAIC (48e) F 20 Nov 08
An attractive large girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, very large ears which she was reluctant to put in the right place, alternating between bonneted and flat, but in the end when persuaded to relax the set turned out to be good. Eyes of good shape if a little full, well set, olive green in colour. Long strong body, long legs with largish paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Colour jet black patched with slightly dull red, sound to the roots, white to the whole underside and well up the left side, white to all legs, white in an inverted triangle on the face though with an almost completely black nose, white to whole chest and over shoulders meeting at the neck; overall well over the minimum third. Coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Havana Kitten, Male

1+BOB Thirsk's TENAJ BRONZE MYSTIC MN 27 Mar 09
A lad of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape though a little full, well set and of a good green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Colour a darkish chestnut almost sound, showing a slight ghost patter to the lower body. Close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Havana Kitten, Female

1 Foster's MINIMESE BOSSSKIP ANGEL 9 Apr 09
A girl of good type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight but angled down from the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape though rather full, well set of a very good green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Colour a darkish chestnut, almost sound to the roots, showing a fairly distinct ghost spotted pattern to lower body and thighs. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Longhair Neuter, Male

BOB Hinchcliffe's IMP GR PR MYLYNN MICKEY FINN (62 43s) 26 May 06
An enormous lad of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a pale green colour, displaying a baleful expression. Very long, very weighty body - any more and it will affect his looks - long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra inch or two not surprising, given the body length. Colour jet black, the silver pushing the colour to the tips over most of the body, leaving very little pattern on the surface and that very indistinct. Just a little tarnishing to the front paws. Coat of good length overall, good ear and foot furnishings, excellent plume. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Longhair Neuter, Female

1+PC Ellis's PR MYLYNN SWEET-PEA (62 43s) 5 Sep 08
An attractive girl of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set ears of adequate size. Profile almost straight, chin ebbs a little, bite level. Eyes of good shape though she did open them a little wide, well set and of a clear pale green. Long firm body, long legs with large paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Coat of good length and flow and of excellent soft silky texture, very good plume, well furnished ears and exceptional foot furnishings. Colour jet black, the clear silver undercolour pushing about three quarters of the way up the hairshaft, still some indistinct pattern visible on the sides but definitely a much more convincing shaded than the last time I judged her. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tabby Point Siamese Adult

1+CC+BOB Evans's BILLSTES GYPSY MOTH (32t3) F 10 Nov 08
An attractive youngster of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and of a very good depth of blue, though she did open them rather wide at first. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Quite well marked in darkish warm chocolate well mingled with shades of red, some bright red in evidence: good facial markings including faint thumbprints, leg bars just present, tail half ringed. Close coat of excellent texture. Rather shy but sweet-tempered, excellent presentation.
2 Grainger's WANDERING THATCHERS GOLD (32/3) F 7 Nov 08
A girl of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape though a little full, well set, needing a little more depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Well marked in a darkish warm chocolate, good facial markings, leg bars and well ringed tail. Unshaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Red Point Siamese Adult

1+CC+BOB Davies's JOHPAS RUBY TALLULAH F 12 Feb 09
A promising youngster of very good type looking rather diminutive in her pen but giving an altogether better impression when persuaded to uncurl. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes a little small but of very good shape, set a little straight, of a good depth of blue. Body of very good length, needing to fill out but this not a real problem given her youth; long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a bright red but a little pale, unshaded body, coat a fraction long and a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Stokes's LITTLEFEAT ROSARITA F 14 Nov 07
A girl of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good basic shape held rather full, needing a little more depth of blue. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Colour quite a good bright red, body lightly shaded along the spine, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation

Apricot Point Siamese Adult

BOB Mullen's CH FOXYPAWS ERICSSON (32fn) M 1 Jun 08
A handsome strong lad of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, slight jowling, well set large ears. Straight profile apart from a bump on the nose, firm chin, level bite. His eyes are for me the snag, set straight and of exaggerated almost triangular shape; they were however of a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Points a good apricot showing clear dingy overtones, moderately shaded body but contrast still quite good, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament if a little "on his toes"; excellent presentation.

Chocolate Point Siamese Kitten

1+BOB Ness & Nicholson's SIMPLISIAM SLAP-N-TICKLE M 27 Jul 09
A promising well grown lad of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, very large ears which he did bonnet rather. Small dip in profile, very firm chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and very good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with large paws, balancing length of tail. Points a well developed warm chocolate if rather dark for his age, but not I thought unacceptably so, some loss of colour around the main veins in his ears. Unshaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A girl of good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good basic shape but distinctly full, needing rather more depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Points unfortunately warm in tone and showing clear brownish overtones, leaving me in no doubt that she was apricot and not cream as registered. Body moderately shaded along the back, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

1+PC+BOB Page's ASHJOLEX APOLLO MN 19 Oct 08
A handsome lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. A lad of good type. Longish even wedge needing a fraction more width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, level bite lacking incisors. Eyes of good basic shape though a little full, well set, needing a little more depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Points of a darkish lilac-based caramel, body lightly shaded over the hips, close coat a little harsh in texture. Rather grumpy and unwilling to be handled, excellent presentation.

Oriental Breeders Adult

1 Armitage's GR CH CHAPELROSE OHMEOHMY (37a) M 13 Nov 07
A very handsome lad of excellent type, but just a little fine and therefore to my eye lacking in the last degree of masculinity. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin though the line from nose to chin not quite vertical, bite level. Expressive eyes of very good shape and set, of a clear pale green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a darkish blue, completely sound, coat a fraction long but of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Cassar Simmonds's FIORDILISO INFIDELITY (29) M 15 Jan 09
A very handsome lad of very good type, of astonishing maturity given his age. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Minute dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a clear green. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a darkish chestnut sound to the roots, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. A very difficult decision between these two cats of high quality, but in the end the blue's slightly better type won out.
