My thanks to Veda and the Show Committee for the invitation to judge, always a pleasure at this show. Thanks to the absence of Craig Dryden and John Harrison, I found myself judging several classes for which I was not scheduled - I hope without too great disappointment to the exhibitors. My thanks to Rachel Tosun, who stewarded for me for the first but I hope not the last time.

Oriental Imperial Grand Champion, Male
1 (IGCC N/A) Harvey's GR CH FIORDILISO CUBA (29) 26 Aug 08
A lad of very good type, but rather small and for me lacking in the masculinity he should have at this age. Long wedge with good width at the top, large ears held a fraction low. Straight profile, slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, colour a slightly yellowy green. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing little extra and with an almost bare patch on the top near the root, the obvious result of treated stud tail, but it does detract. Colour distinctly dark, sound to the roots but with rather too clear a ghost spotted pattern on the body, coat short, close lying and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A mature girl of substance and very good type. Longish well balanced even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a rather pale green. Long well nourished body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction and is a little blunt at the tip. Colour an attractive mixture of warm if slightly dark cinnamon mingled everywhere with shades of bright red, sound to the roots. Coat a fraction long but close-lying, of excellent texture. Rather wary but handled well, excellent presentation.

A lad of very good type and of surprising maturity for his tender age. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm slightly shallow chin, level bite lacking many incisors. Eyes of very good shape, set a little straight and rather deep set, of a good depth of blue. Long weighty body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra inch for balance. Points a slightly pale shade of red, lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Handled well, excellent presentation. Only the eyes gave me slight reservations, but not ones I was inclined to take seriously.

Well marked in a darkish warm chocolate: good facials including double ribbons, good leg bars, fully ringed tail. Warm body colour showing light shading to the rear, coat a fraction long but of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation

Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a darkish lilac-based caramel showing very clear brownish overtones. Very lightly shaded body, close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A lad of very good type and of very good maturity considering his age. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile slightly angled down from the brow, chin ebbs slightly, bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set and very good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction. Points a little darker than the ideal but with very good warmth of tone, a little brindled, almost unshaded warm ivory body, close coat of excellent texture. Wonderfully relaxed to handle and knows how to display himself to his best advantage, excellent presentation.

A large lad, as yet looking a little innocent, of good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, quite jowly already, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile with a small dip beneath the brow and bump on the nose, firm but slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set needing a fraction more depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with strong paws, tail needing an extra inch or two. Marked in a good warm chocolate, good facial markings, fair leg bars, tail half ringed. Lightly shaded body, coat very short but a little harsh in texture along the back. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Points a good warm cinnamon mingled everywhere with shades of red, some foreground red in evidence but that on the pale side. Unshaded ivory body, coat close and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

An older girl of very good type and substance. Long wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, very firm but rather shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set needing more depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction. Points of a good warm seal showing brindling except to the mask, body slightly cool in tone, lightly shaded. Coat close and of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Coat jet black to the roots, a fraction long but close lying and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A lad of really impressive type and masculinity. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of an olive green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction. Pattern colour quite a good warm chocolate, pale toffee undercolour covering about two-thirds of the hair shaft, the hairs mostly agouti but the presence of faint slightly broken bars on the sides confirms his underlying pattern as a poor spotted. Coat close and of very good texture, excellent temperament and presentation.

Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and a clear pale green colour. Long well fed body, long legs with largish paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Colour a good lilac based caramel showing clear brownish overtones, completely sound and free of ghost markings, coat of good length a little full in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Pure white colour, coat close and of excellent texture. Free with her words but handled well, excellent presentation.

Straight profile, firm chin, bite level though she allowed only a brief glimpse. Eyes of very good shape and set, olive green in colour. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Colour over half white, attractively patched in black and bright red showing clear ticking. Close coat of excellent texture. Provided she can be reconciled to being handled, I think she has a bright future.

Colour a very dark chocolate, just over a third white, completely white underside and white to all limbs, a little bleeding of white into the edges of the coloured areas, close coat of excellent texture. A very confident lad, showing himself off well; excellent presentation.

Well set eyes of good basic shape but on the full side, of a mid olive green. Long elegant body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction. Colour an extremely dark chocolate, Completely white underbody, white to all limbs and head, some white on the upper body also - in all, about half. A little bleeding of white into the edges of the coloured areas, and also a few isolated white hairs within the colour. Close coat of very good texture; excellent temperament and presentation.

An attractive large lad of very good type. Medium length wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, unfortunately to my eye orange with just the faintest hint of green which caused him to drop a place lower than he otherwise deserved. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, well tapered tail needing an extra fraction. Pattern colour a good vibrant rich red, good facial markings, spotting on the sides rather linked, well ringed tail. White to face, limbs and almost completely white underside from throat to tail, a little white on the sides at the shoulder, in all, a little over one third white. Coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
