Wessex Cat Club - 6 March 2010

Thanks to Elaine, Lisa and John and the team for their invitation to judge at this successful show, held at a new and convenient venue. Unfortunately, thanks to Jackie Reed's absence I took on her Imperial class and consequently lost my booked steward - hope we can arrange an alternative.

Open Classes

Oriental Imperial Grand Premier Male

IGPC Holder's GR PR MYLYNN MAGNIFIQUE (62 18) 5 Sep 08
A huge lad of excellent type and substance. Long even wedge, very good width at the top, large ears which, to be hypercritical, he did hold a little low. Straight profile, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set of a clear pale green. Long muscular and weighty body, long legs with large paws, tail needing an extra inch to balance. Pattern colour jet black, the clear silver undercolour pushing rather high up the hair shaft but leaving a reasonable depth of colour on the pattern. Very good head markings, the spine line rather solid as with almost all OLH tabbies I have seen, the spots on the body at first glance appearing rather linked but this is at least partly due to blurring caused by the coat length, tail rings present. Coat of superb texture, and good, well furnished ears, toes and a good plume, some frilling round the neck. Excellent temperament if on the shy side, excellent presentation. I did have to think hard about the certificate purely because of his pattern which is definitely short of the excellence which he otherwise attains, but decided it was just good enough.
2 (Res IGPC n/a) Weaver's GR PR SUNJADE SKIPPER (37k) 27 Oct 07
A large lad of excellent type, but as usual not keen to be judged and emitting baseless threats. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good clear green. Long well-fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour a slightly dark spicy cinnamon, rather unsound over the lower back and showing a faint ghost pattern to the sides. Coat short, close-lying and of very good texture. Handled well despite the words, excellent presentation. Sorry, but at this level I found the unsoundness too much to award the certificate, though I later did not judge it sufficiently bad to preclude award of the Grand.

Oriental Imperial Grand Premier Female

IGPC Lee's CH & UK IGPR WILLHAVETODO OUIJA BOARD (37p) 27 May 06
Today in a fairly confident mood, this attractive girl has excellent type. Longish very even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set of a clear pale green. Long svelte muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction for balance. Colour a very good lilac-based caramel, sound to the roots, well broken with shades of apricot. Close coat of excellent texture, excellent temperament and presentation. No hesitation whatever about the certificate.

Oriental Grand Premier Male

GPC Weaver's GR PR SUNJADE SKIPPER (37k) 27 Oct 07
Res GPC Baker's PR SOLARUS MISTOFFELEES (37fn) 11 Jul 07
An elegant lad of good type. Long even wedge needing a little more width at the top, large ears set in line. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set though slightly small, of quite a good green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour a warm apricot sound to the roots showing a clear brownish overcast, commendably free of tabby pattern, just a little barring on the lower sides. Grumbly but easy to handle, excellent presentation.

Oriental Grand Premier Female

GPC Hutchings's GR PR WILLHAVETODO IMJUSTDIVINE (43e) 4 Aug 07
A girl of excellent type, but so very apprehensive today. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a clear palish green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Pattern colour a well mingled black with shades of red, appearing to be ticked-based. There is quite a distinct undercolour, covering the bottom three quarters or more of the hairshaft, but distinctly darker than I should expect in both phases of her colour. Nevertheless, I thought it an acceptable shaded pattern if rather unusual. Very short coat of excellent texture. Bore the examination with fortitude though obviously wishing to be elsewhere, presentation probably excellent before rearranged to suit.

Oriental Cinnamon Adult, Male

BOB Dawe's GR CH WESTGARTH FOOLSGOLD (37k) 23 Mar 08
An impressive lad of excellent type and substance. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin, bite level if a little untidy. Expressive eyes of excellent shape and set of a distinctly yellowy green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a good warm cinnamon impressively sound, some ghost spotting over the body, the ears and tail a little bleached. Coat close and of very good texture. Excellent soft temperament, excellent presentation.

Red Point Siamese Neuter, Male

1+PC Gardner's ROZANDEN COINNEACH 17 Feb 09
A lad of good type in his pen, he did his best to persuade me otherwise when he came out, goggling his eyes and raising his ears. Long slightly narrow wedge, large ears well set. Straight profile, firm chin, bit level though uneven. Eyes of good shape and set in the end, of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch or two. Colour a deep slightly dull-toned red, very lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament, handled well but very shy.

Red Point Siamese Neuter, Female

1+PC+BOB Webster's CH JOHPAS GOLDEN SILKA 25 Feb 08

Excellent temperament and presentation.

Cream Point Siamese Neuter

A large lad of very good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile angled down from the brow and with a bump on the nose, firm slightly shallow chin, bite level. Expressive eyes of excellent shape and set but needing more depth of blue. Long well feed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour a pale cool cream to mask and front legs, darker and warmer to tail and hind legs, with the same discrepancy in the moderate body shading. Coat close, a little harsh in texture on the lower back. Sweetest temperament, excellent presentation.
