Siamese Cat Club - 5 November 2011

Thanks to Niki and Barbie and the show committee for the invitation to judge at the premiere Siamese breed show. If the entry is sadly diminished from the days when I first started, there is no doubt that the quality is holding up. Thanks also to Joan for coming specially to steward for me, always a pleasure if one I will have to forgo as she goes on to higher things.

Open Classes

Siamese/Balinese/Pointed Bicolour Imperial Grand Premier, Male

Thanks to the exhibitors for putting these cats under me. Good to see three cats all of whom in my opinion deserved the highest award, even if only one could win it. None of them perfect (what perfect cat has there ever been, anyway) but with their little flaws vanishing into insignificance against their overall quality.
OGPC Tobias's IMP GR PR SHERMESE FUNANDGAMES (32/1) 9 Sep 06
An extremely handsome mature lad of excellent type. Strong long even wedge, good width at the top, large ear very well set. Straight profile, deep chin but it could really be a little firmer, level bite with only one lower incisor. Expressive eyes of excellent shape and set and very good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. His markings in a good warm seal are adequate but not outstanding, which given that he is ticked based is the best one can expect - the "M" is a little blurred, and the tail half ringed. Moderately shaded body, coat close though a little harsh in texture. A friendly lad who handled well, but in his pen wanted to be under every available blanket. Excellent presentation.
Res OGPC Hutchings's IMP GR PR MAFDET MACATHUR (32/8) 23 Apr 09
A handsome lad of excellent type, his head nearly as good as the winner, but his body still needing to catch up. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set if a little deep set, of a very good depth of blue. Longish firm body needing more muscle ideally, long legs with neat paws, tail needs at least an extra inch to balance. Well marked in a good lilac-based caramel with a generous overlay of sludgy overtones: good facial markings (unsurprisingly, no thumbprints), leg bars present even if faint, fully ringed tail. Unshaded body, coat close but the texture a little harsh along the spine. A little shy, excellent presentation.
Also considered Janicki's IMP GR PR SHERMESE FABULOUS FABERGE (24) 10 Feb 09
Another handsome lad of excellent type, and presenting me with a real dilemma as to the reserve. Long wedge, a little overlong in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm deep chin, level bite lacking central lower incisors. Eyes of very good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long muscular but lean body - unusually for a neuter, some more weight would improve him. Long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Very good warm seal points, moderately shaded body but still good contrast and good warmth to the body colour. Coat short, close-lying and of excellent texture. Very shy, needing a bit of extra self-belief, excellent presentation.

Siamese/Balinese Grand Champion, Male

1 (IGCC N/A) Single's GR CH HARTZIE ARCTIC ECHO (24b) 20 Aug 10
A lad of good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and very good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points a good warm chocolate but the mask incomplete with pale whisker pads and all points rather brindled, unusually for his colour distinct ghost tabby markings to head and tail. Lightly shaded body, coat a little long and slightly harsh in texture along the back, signs of treated stud tail at the base. Superb temperament, excellent presentation. Sorry not to award the certificate, but for me he lacks extra needed at this level. Of course, he is very young and could improve.

Siamese/Balinese Grand Champion, Female

IGCC Cook's GR CH JOHPAS MIZMIXTURE (32b2) 14 Jul 10
A wonderful girl of exquisite type - my first meeting with her, but worth the wait - still only young, but very much the finished article. Long even wedge, good width at the top. well set large ears. Profile almost straight, chin firm but slightly shallow, level bite. Expressive eyes of excellent shape and set and of a very good deep blue. Long firm relaxed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points of a good blue mingled with shades of cool cream - quite sparsely mingled, I have to admit - lightly shaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Wonderful temperament, excellent presentation. My clear choice for overall best exhibit, though the rest of the panel thought otherwise

Pointed Oriental Bicolour Premier, Male

GPC Taylor's PR JADEVYN BRYCHAN TROEDMAWR (48 40bt) 19 May 08
A lad of superior type, though a lack of self-confidence made the fact quite difficult to discern, but as he relaxed he improved out of all recognition. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight other than a bump on the nose, very firm slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and of good depth of blue for a bicolour considering the placement of the white on his face. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. White to almost the complete underside, inverted V in the mask, white tips to the ears, for most of the front limbs and over the shoulders, rear paws and some on the right thigh, a small patch on the back, all in all a little over the required third. Coloured areas well marked in darkish warm chocolate, moderate shading on the body. Coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Chocolate Point Kitten, Female

1 (BOB N/A) Harrison's MAIHONGSONG SUZI-WONG (24b) 27 Jun 11
A very friendly kitten of reasonably good type. Medium length wedge, a little short in the muzzle, needing more width at the top; large ears set in line. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set needing more depth of blue. Proportionate firm body, long legs with tiny paws, balancing length of tail. Points a distinctly dark chocolate where they have developed, though quite warm in tone, all rather brindled. Unshaded body, coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tortie Point Adult

BOB Cook's GR CH JOHPAS MIZMIXTURE (32b2)
Also considered Budden's CH JOMESE JAZEERA (32b1) 29 Jan 10
An attractive girl of very good type, unfortunate in her competition for BOB. Longish almost even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and of good depth of blue - just a little dull. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Points of good seal well mingled mostly with background red, though with a little foreground on ears and under feet, and that is rather pale - a bit more brightness in it would transform her appearance. I did like the splash on her nose, though. Moderately shaded body; coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Apricot Point Adult, Male

1+CC+BOB Bunyan's LAZIZA TEPPANYAKI 18 Dec 10
An impressive lad, handsome and very mature for his age, of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long firm muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a good warm sludgy apricot. Moderately shaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Superb temperament, excellent presentation.

Balinese Neuter, Male

BOB Woodhouse's GR PR DORAL LEBRUIN (61fnt) 12 Dec 09
A handsome large lad of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set ears which would ideally be a touch bigger. Profile almost straight apart from a bump on the nose, firm chin, level bite lacking the lower incisors. Eyes of good shape and set though a little deep set, of good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Coat frilling a little round the neck, of adequate length to the back and upper sides, good length elsewhere and of an excellent texture. Good furnishings to feet and ears, good plume. Marked in a slightly pale but very warm apricot, good facial markings and tail rings, leg bars there but faint. Moderately shaded body. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Eyes of very good shape and set though a little deep set, needing a little more depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. 2 Barker's CHAPELROSE NOT-NOW-BERNARD (24r) M 21 Jun 11
A lad of reasonably good type. Medium length even wedge needing a little more width at the top, large ears set in line. Dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape set a little straight but of rather a pale blue. Proportionate firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. AC Debutante Kitten

1 Bunyan's SARNAU CREMENDUS (32c) F 3 Jul 11
A pretty and promising baby of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set though I should prefer a slightly deeper blue. Proportionate firm body, the manubrium a little prominent, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Point of a pale but quite warm-toned cream, I should not be surprised if she turns out to be apricot but at the moment there's enough doubt. Unshaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation
2 Simpson's SHERMESE MOONDANCE (32/2) 29 Jul 11
A promising baby of good type, just old enough to be present. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile with developmental faults as yet - a small dip below and shallow depression above the brow - firm chin and level bite with the incisors just starting to appear. Well set eyes of good basic shape though she did hold them rather full, I expect she'll stop doing it when she's more used to being shown - they show a promising depth of blue. Proportionate firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Markings coming in a darkish blue, body muddy as yet, and still sporting her fluffy baby coat. Excellent presentation, temperament outstanding - would have just fitted my pocket.

1 Woodhouse's DORAL NAJINSKI (32/5) MN 15 Jan 11
A handsome lad and very well developed for his age, of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Well set eyes of good shape if a little full and very good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch and could do with being better tapered. Marked in a red which though bright is distinctly pale, good facial markings and tail rings, no leg bars as yet (to be expected really for his age and colour). Unshaded body, short close-lying coat of excellent texture. Excellent presentation; temperament excellent even if he is a little shy.
