Siamese Cat Society of Scotland - 2 Jul 2011

Thanks to Pina and the show committee for the invitation to judge at this well run show and for the hospitality they showed. The quality of the exhibits was high, even if the numbers were not all that might have been hoped for - just as well, since three of the five originally booked judges dropped out shortly before the show - as a result, I ended up judging many classes which were intended for someone else, I hope not overmuch to the disappointment of the exhibitors concerned. Thanks to Rosemary Lenette for stepping in when my originally intended steward failed to make it, I hope we can repeat the experience some time.

Open Classes

Siamese/Balinese/Oriental Imperial Grand Premier

OGPC UK & IMP GR PR SCOTMAR CLASSIE LASSIE (24a) FN 9 Apr 07
A girl of excellent even type, lacking perhaps in the flashiness which might give her more instant appeal, but none the worse for that. Longer medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a bright mid blue. Longish slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points of a good soft blue unusual to see, though the hall light did darken them somewhat, but daylight revealed their quality, lightly shaded cool toned body, coat just marginally long but of excellent texture. Superb temperament, excellent presentation.

Siamese/Balinese Grand Premier, Male

IGPC Saxon's GR PR SHIMILEETA STONECOLDCRAZY (32/3) 4 Oct 06
A large lad of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a small bump on the nose, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a good depth of blue. Long weighty muscular body, long legs with largish paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Well marked mostly in a warm chocolate which if darker than perfection would require is nevertheless paler than most and good to see; the snag being the tail which is several shades darker though still to my eye just matching in tone. Good facial markings including double ribbons, good leg bars, fully ringed tail. Very lightly shaded warm ivory body, short close-lying coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation, though not the extrovert able to sell himself fully which would have made for an easier decision.

Oriental Grand Champion, Female

IGCC Tosun's GR CH SAITAN MISS TEASE (43b) 28 Apr 08
An attractive mature girl of excellent unexaggerated type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set of a clear pale green. Long substantial muscular body, long legs with neat paws, almost balancing length of tail. Pattern colour a dark warm chocolate, ground a warm bronze, two bands of ticking, not completely even, with a tendency to clump together on the body giving an impression of faint tiny spots; the spine as usual was a little darker. Good facial markings, well ringed tail. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. While I would prefer more even ticking, I did not think this small problem sufficient grounds not to award a certificate which in all other respects was well deserved.

Siamese/Balinese Champion, Male

GCC Mailer's CH ADNIOAM LINDEA MCTABBY (32/1) 9 Jun 09
A handsome masculine lad of very good type. Long even wedge showing moderate jowls, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set and of good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail requiring an extra inch. Marked in a dark warm seal with good facial markings and leg bars, tail three quarters ringed. Heavily shaded over the top of the head and this showing the expected tabby pattern, but still showing contrast so not yet a hood; moderately shaded to the rest of the body, the shading exhibiting a clear spotted pattern as permitted by the SOP. Coat close and of good texture; excellent temperament and presentation.

Siamese/Balinese Champion, Female

1 (GCC N/A) Denholm's CH PIPISTRELLE PATIENCE (32b3) 26 Aug 09
An attractive girl of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile slightly angled down from the brow, firm chin and level bite. Well set eyes of good shape though she does tend to open them rather wide, needing a little more depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch and has a small irregularity at the tip. Points a dark warm chocolate, sparsely mingled on the mask, well elsewhere, but the mingling lacking in brightness. Lightly shaded body, close coat of very good texture; excellent temperament and presentation. While I was much taken with her type ad style, I thought her imperfections sufficient to preclude award of a certificate at this level.
2 Tosun's CH PALMIRA NERISSA (24b) 5 Sep 08
A girl of good type. Longish wedge with rather a broad muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile which the scuff marks on her nose unfortunately draw attention to, firm chin and level bite lacking most incisors. Eyes slightly small but of very good shape and set and very good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points of a warm chocolate which was undeniably rather dark but not unacceptably so. Lightly shaded warm body, close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. While I would happily have awarded an ordinary certificate, in my view she lacks at present the little extra required for a higher award.

Siamese/Balinese Premier, Male

GPC Geddes's PR FLUTTERBY TROOP THE COLOUR (32fn) 13 May 10
A very impressive lad of excellent type, for me the star of the show. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set and of a good depth of blue. Long substantial muscular body, long legs with largish paws, balancing length of tail. Points warm and showing good brownish overtones, a little pale to the mask but good elsewhere. Lightly shaded body, close coat of very good texture. Excellent temperament though talkative; excellent presentation.

Oriental Champion, Male

GCC Samphier's CH EIREACHDAIL FEELIN GROOVY (48d) 23 May 07
A handsome mature lad of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm if a little shallow chin, level bite lacking most incisors. Expressive eyes of very good shape and set, olive green in colour - good to see how they have improved in this respect; they are set a little far apart thanks to the broad base of his nose. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance.. Colour rich red showing a light spotted pattern, about half and half white to colour, with white to the complete underbody and well up the sides, on all limbs, and attractive distribution on the face. Coat a fraction long but of excellent texture, superb temperament; excellent presentation.

Oriental Champion, Female

GCC Harvey's CH ENIGMATIC KILLER QUEEN (37h) 14 Feb 10
An attractive girl of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a clear mid green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Colour a darkish warm chocolate well mingled with shades of red with plenty of bright red in the mixture. Close coat of excellent texture, excellent temperament and presentation. Good to see she had not suffered from the morning's escapades.

Oriental Premier, Male

GCC Devlin's PR FIORDILISO RED ALERT (37d) 24 Apr 10
A lad of very good type, of good maturity for his 14 months. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin ebbs slightly, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a pale olive green. Long slender muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a slightly pale but rich red (it looked much better when taken to the daylight), showing a tabby pattern of which most spotteds would be proud, but acceptable according to the SOP. Close coat of excellent texture, excellent temperament and presentation.

Seal Point Adult

1+CC+BOB Robb's RIVANESS ARTFUL DODGER M 15 Jul 10
A handsome youngster of good type still obviously with development to undergo but of good maturity for his age. Long wedge with a small pinch, jowls starting to develop, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin firm but slightly shallow, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Points a dense warm seal, light shading to the body the pepper and salt appearance of which does detract somewhat. Moderate shading over the back of the head. Coat short, close-lying and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Lilac Point Adult

1+CC+BOB Mason's GENETTA HOT-TODDY M 7 Jun 10
A handsome adolescent of good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, I should prefer slightly more depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction for balance. Points a lilac which if a shade darker than the ideal is still very creditable, unshaded magnolia body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tabby Point Adult

1+CC Shand's PALMIRA NOLEEN (32/3) F 26 Aug 10
A youngster of good type, with plenty of development still required, but adequately mature given her age. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile rather raised at the brow and flat above it, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set and very good depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Marked in a dark warm chocolate, the markings very good other than on the mask where they were adequate, I confess I found the breaking of her front leg bars into tiny spots higher up the legs very attractive. Lightly shaded body, close coat of excellent texture, excellent temperament and presentation.
BOB Brown's GR CH FISEPO THISLEWAY-AURORA (32t8) F 4 Dec 09
An extremely attractive girl of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight though angled down slightly from the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set, though for perfection they would be a slightly deeper blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Displaying good tabby markings in a soft brown tinged caramel mingled with apricot, some of the warmer tones visible; unusually for the colour the even the leg bars easy to discern. Unshaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent presentation; a great pity she is so retiring, not willing to display herself. I was very happy to countersign an Imperial certificate for her.
Also considered for BOB Mailer's CH ADNIOAM LINDEA MCTABBY (32/1) M

Well marked in a good warm seal, good facial markings and leg bars, very good tail rings. Very lightly shaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Colour a dark blue on an oatmeal ground, the undercolour about halfway up the hair shaft except along the spine where as expected the top colour went down nearly to the roots, she does still display an unfortunate degree of tabby barring though. Eyes of very good shape and set of a clear intense green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour over two thirds white, the pattern colour a soft brown-hued lilac-based caramel, impossible to be certain about her pattern, with small patches of colour which certainly showed ticking, but their position such that this could have been the ground of a different pattern. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Later best Oriental kitten, and my unsuccessful choice for best overall oriental.

AC Oriental Self Neuter

1 Sinclair's TRELGANDORF TRADITIONAL (29) MN 17 Feb 10
A handsome lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and of a good green. Long well muscled body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. His colour was the snag for me, being a very dark chocolate on the body, though the head was better, and for me lacking in the chestnut tone the SOP describes. It was however completely sound. Coat short and sleek, of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AC Oriental Non-Self Neuter

Eyes of good shape and set, olive green in colour. Long firm wriggly body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a dark though warm chocolate, on a good warm ground colour. Facial markings, leg bars and tail rings good, but unfortunately the body markings leave much to be desired, though there is an acceptable butterfly, the oyster is absent on the left side and only sketched in on the right, with the major visible markings on both sides being a set of vertical stripes. Coat close lying and of good texture, excellent temperament and presentation.
