Wessex Cat Club - 5 March 2011

Wessex Cat Club - 5 March 2011 Harry Meekings Thanks to Elaine, Lisa and John and the team for their invitation to judge, at a show where if the entries were not as high as might have been hoped, at least the quality was good. I have particularly to mention the Best of Variety Oriental kitten of which any of the kittens competing would have been worthy winners, and in which Shermese Ticksalltheboxes (45b) and Loricha Oohlaalaa (62 43s) I thought were particularly unfortunate coming barely a whisker behind my eventual winner. My thanks to Sharon for her excellent stewarding and company.

Open Classes

Siamese/Balinese Imperial Grand Premier Male

IGPC Hutching's IMP GR PR MAFDET MACARTHUR (32/8) 23 Apr 09
A very handsome lad of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Expressive eyes of excellent shape and set and of a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail definitely needs at least another inch to balance. Marked in a pale very brown-toned lilac-based caramel, good facial markings (including faint thumbprints), the leg bars need to be looked for but are definitely there, almost completely ringed tail. Almost unshaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Res IGPC Janicki's GR PR SHERMESE FABULOUS FABERGE (24) 10 Feb 09
Another very handsome lad of excellent type, not far behind the winner. Long even wedge, just a fraction longer than I ideally like, but well balanced with good width at the top and very well set large ears. Almost straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Expressive eyes of very good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, well tapered tail of balancing length which was good to see. Points a very good dense warm seal, body moderately shaded but still giving good contrast. Coat a little long and rather soft in texture. Excellent presentation, but very shy demeanour which is a pity - he could look better if he had more self-belief

Siamese/Balinese Imperial Grand Premier Female

IGPC Martin's GR CH & IMP GR PR ABICASA CARMINA BURANA (24c) 13 Feb 07
A girl of excellent unexaggerated type with exemplary soft pinky lilac points. Strong medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Almost imperceptible dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set, of a very good depth of blue. Long extremely well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points of excellent lilac, matching perfectly apart from the usual paler legs and contrasting well with the lightly shaded body. Short close-lying coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 (Res IGPC N/A) McAlpine's GR PR LYNNOX FRANCESCA (24b) 17 May 05
Quite an attractive girl of good type, unfortunately lacking in self-belief and not able to sell herself. Long wedge, rather full in the muzzle and something of a pinch; a little more width needed at the top to balance and a bit of a bump there too, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm though slightly shallow chin, bite lacking most incisors but appears level. Eyes of good shape set a little straight, of a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points of a dark though warm chocolate, pale around the eyes and overall rather brindled, very lightly shaded warm ivory body giving excellent contrast, coat a little long but of excellent texture. Excellent presentation.
Sorry, but in my opinion her faults as she is today add up sufficiently to preclude this high award.

AC Pedigree HHP Imperial Grand Mastercat

IGMC Franklin's LOUIE MN 4 yrs 11 m
A very friendly spotted Bengal. Neat little ears, appealing pale green eyes and a wonderful long set of whiskers clearly marked spots on a warm ground, the coat plush and perfectly groomed with not a hair out of place. Very eager to come out and be fussed, and indeed to make a fuss of us - he had the required attributes of a pet to perfection, and well merited the certificate.
Res IGMC Cullin's GMC ELIJAH MN 3 yrs 3 m
A very friendly tabby point Siamese, down as blue but I have my doubts, not that is of any relevance. Wonderfully expressive deep blue eyes of perfect Siamese shape and position, which later won him the "most appealing eyes" class. Long slender elegant body sporting well marked points in a rather sludgy blue. Short well groomed coat but a little harsh to the feel.

Oriental Grand Champion Female

1 (GPC N/A) Roper's CH SNOWSEAL SUNNYDELIGHT (37r) 9 Sep 09
In some ways a most attractive girl, of reasonably good type. Longish wedge with a pinch, more width needed at the top to balance, large ears held rather high. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Very attractive eyes of good shape and set and of a bright clear green colour. Body long but very slender needing to fill out, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Colour a very attractive soft rosy-hued fawn, coloured to the roots, showing a faint ghost pattern to the flanks, short close-lying coat or excellent texture. Rather shy, excellent presentation.

Havana Kitten, Male

1 Wheatley's SHERMESE MONTE-CRISTO 7 Jul 10
A large handsome lad of good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top with a little bump at the rear, well set large ears. Profile angled down from the brow and with quite a bump on the nose, very strong chin with good depth, bite level. Eyes of good shape and set if a little small and deep set, of a good green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail almost balances. Colour a dark chestnut sound to the roots but showing fairly heavy ghost pattern to the sides, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Havana Kitten, Female

1+BOB Mitchell's BARBECCO PENELOPE PITSTOP 30 Oct 10
A very attractive and promising girl of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Attractive eyes of very good shape and set though she did expand them a little when out of the pen, of a very good green. Proportionate well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a good warm chestnut, perhaps just a shade dark but nevertheless better than most, coloured to the roots, coat close and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Lilac Kitten, Male

1+BOB Dawe's BARBECCO PETER PURRFECT 30 Oct 10
An extremely promising young lad, litter sibling it turned out to the Havana and Lilac girls, not a great surprise as they looked very similar and of course the date of birth was something of a clue. Longish even wedge, good width to balance, well set large ears. Straight profile other than a very shallow depression above the brow, not unusual at this age and nothing in my view to worry about, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set of a very good pure green colour seldom to be seen, Proportionate body length, long legs with large paws to grow into, balancing length of tail. Colour a good lilac sound to the roots, coat close and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation - my eventual choice for BOV Oriental kitten

Oriental Lilac Kitten, Female

1 Dawe's BARBECCO LAVENDER LIL 30 Oct 10
Another very promising girl of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile angled down slightly from the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape set a little straight of a very good green. Proportionate firm body, long legs with largish paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a slightly darker lilac than her brother but displaying good pinky tones and sound to the roots. Coat close and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tabby Point Siamese Adult, Male

BOB Smyth's GR CH NATHIFA GIGALO (32/8) 13 May 08
A handsome masculine lad of very good type. Long wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch. Quite well marked in a palish lilac-based caramel, body lightly shaded, coat close but a little harsh in texture, excellent presentation, handled well but could not be persuaded to relax.

Red Point Siamese Adult, Female

1+CC+BOB Fairclough's CH ZARAFA ALLOWEEN 2 Aug 09
An attractive girl of good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight part from a small bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape set a fraction straight, of a good depth of blue. Long slender body but which looks rather insubstantial but is surprisingly weighty to the feel. Long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a good bright red, unshaded body, close coat though slightly harsh in texture. Wonderful friendly temperament; excellent presentation.

Tortie Point Siamese Adult

1 (CC N/A) Woodhouse's DORAL JESSICA (32b1) 25 Jun 08
A girl of good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes though of good basic shape were distinctly full and needed more depth of blue. Long body, very slender and lacking in substance though in very good condition, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a dark seal well sprinkled with shades of red including some of the brighter shades, good contrast with her lightly shaded body. Easy to handle but very apprehensive, excellent presentation. I'm afraid he combination of her eyes and need to fill out were enough to convince me not to award the certificate

AC Balinese Neuter, Female

1+CC+BOB Woodhouse's CH DORAL IMOGENE (61e) 22 Jun 07
A mature girl of good type. Longish wedge, a little full in the muzzle and with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin, bite level lacking incisors. Eyes of very good shape, well set, and of a good depth of blue. Long firm well-fed body, long legs with largish paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Points a good seal well broken with shades of red, with a good proportion of bright red in the mix, lightly shaded body. Coat of good length, impressive for an entire girl, of an excellent silky texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Hart's HARTRIDGE HIGGLEPIGGLE (61g) 2 Feb 10
A girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set ears could ideally be a little bigger. Straight profile, chin shallow and ebbs distinctly, bite level. Eyes of good shape and set needing more depth of blue. Long well fed body, long sturdy legs with large paws, tail needs an extra inch and has a small irregularity at the tip. Points of a dark blue well mingled with shades of cream which were rather too warm, lightly shaded body, another with surprisingly good coat length for an entire girl and of excellent texture, well furnished plume. Excellent presentation, rather fidgety to handle.

Miscellaneous Classes

AC Siamese/Balinese Kitten (6-9 months)

1 Johnston's ANDALYN ANGELICA (24n) F 4 Aug 10
A most attractive and promising kitten of very good type. Long even wedge, very good width at the top, very good set to her large ears. Straight profile, firm though slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set and an impressive depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points of a very good browny lilac-based caramel, unshaded body. Coat short but not improved by her fluffing it up in pleasure at being handled. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AC Oriental Self Neuter

1 Webster's BARBECCO VERY SCRUMPTIOUS (29) MN 27 Mar 10
A large lad of very good type. Long wedge, a little overlong in the muzzle for me, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set though sadly of a distinctly yellowy green. Long hard muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a dark warm chestnut, not quite sound, showing quite a clear ghost spotted pattern. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent presentation and temperament though rather nervous.

AC Oriental Non-Self Neuter

1 Lee's WILLHAVETODO WINNIETHEWITCH (37e) FN 27 May 06
An attractive girl of very good type, Longish even wedge, good wide top, well set large ears. Profile straight though a little angled down from the brow, firm deep chin, bite level though lacking most upper incisors. Eyes of very good shape and set an of a clear mid green. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Colour an attractive mingling of jet black and shades of bright red, sound to the roots. Short close-lying coat of superb texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Price's MAZPAHS WAR PAINT (48) MN 31 Dec 08
Rather a fractious lad of good type. Long wedge, slightly full in the muzzle, needing more width at the top, ears good ideally be a little bigger and were tipped forward. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite.. Expressive eyes of very good shape and set and of a good green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Coloured parts jet black and sound to roots though with a few isolated white hairs, quite a lot of bleeding of white into the boundaries of the coloured areas. Well over the required third white, the white on the head curiously distributed as though he had dipped his head in a paint pot to a little above the eyes, most of the front of the body white, nearly complete white to the underside, a lot of white to rear paws and legs. Excellent presentation.

HHP Miscellaneous Classes

Cat/Kitten with most appealing eyes

A difficult class to judge, with so many attractive in their own different ways - more than most aspects of Household Pet judging, this class had to come down to personal preference.
1 Cullin's GMC ELIJAH MN 3 yrs 3 m
Perhaps showing bias here, since Siamese are my first love, but this boy's eyes were just as those of a good Siamese should be.
2 Skinner's BOBBY BEAU MN 11 m
Silver shaded and white - an attractive full bright green.
3 Franklin's IGMC LOUIE MN 4 yrs 11 m
Expressive and off-green.

Seal Point Bicolour SLH - Full, bold, and a bright pale blue.

2 Potts's PICKLE POTTS FN 2 yrs 6 m
Tabby & White SLH - a basically friendly girl but rather distracted by an animated discussion with her neighbour, handled well nonetheless. Lots of pristine white on display, coat of medium length and excellent texture.
