Yorkshire County Cat Club - 22 October 2011

Thanks to Linda, Elaine and the show management for the invitation to judge, and for the usual excellent Yorkshire lunch to keep me going. Some really excellent exhibits to judge, too. Thanks also to Rosie for making the journey to steward for me - the expected litter of kittens having arrived on time this year.

Open Classes

Oriental Tortie Kitten

1+BOB Nelson's SKYBLUEPINK TWILIGHT GEM (37p) F 26 Mar 11
A nervous girl of good type, it was very difficult to persuade her to relax - in fact, we didn't really succeed, so it is possible she didn't do herself justice. Longish even wedge, needing a little more width at the top, large ears set in line. Straight profile, firm rather shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape though on the full side, well set and of a good green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour lilac-based caramel with some signs of a metallic sheen, mingled well if rather sparsely as to the head with shades of hot apricot, sound to the roots. Coat close-lying and of excellent texture. Excellent presentation.

Oriental Bicolour Neuter

BOB Castelli's PR SENSAY SPOTSNSTRIPES (48 38) MN 7 Oct 10
A handsome lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, olive green in colour. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. White in an inverted V on the face and splashes on the ear tips, for the whole underbody, up the front legs to the shoulders, to both hind leg and a strip across the right thigh, comfortably over the required third. Pattern colour dark brown, the ground colour could be warmer, but the pattern shows distinct problems, more distinct on the left side than the right, but in both cases formed entirely from dark agouti hairs. Fortunately for him, the SOP considers this to be irrelevant. Coat short, close-lying and of good texture. Handled well even if rather grumpy; excellent presentation.

Oriental Longhair Neuter

BOB Whitby's IMP GR PR PIPPASTRO MAGIK FLUTE (62 43fn) MN 7 Jul 07
An extremely handsome lad of excellent type but needing a little more masculinity for perfection. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set though slightly generous in size, of a good green. Long muscular body, long legs with largish paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Coat of a good length except a little short along the back, of the most wonderful soft silky texture, ears and paws well furnished, good plume. Colour a good warm apricot, the paler undercolour pushing just over half way up, but despite this quite heavy shading he shows no evidence whatever of tabby markings on the body. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Also considered Goddard's PR MYLYNN MISCHIEF-MAKER (62 18) MN 11 Jul 10
A large lad of very good type, Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small bump on the nose but profile otherwise straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of an olive green. Long very well fed body, long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Coat of good length and texture, paws and ears well furnished, good plume. Pattern colour jet black, clear silver ground, with silver also just under half-way up the pattern hairs on the body, raising a question as to whether it might be becoming evident that he is in fact shaded - but if so, he has far too much clarity of pattern as yet, with clear spotting to the body even if with some linkage. Good facial markings, leg bars and tail rings. All paws rather tarnished. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Caramel Point Adult

1+CC Atkinson's SENSAY SOBRIETY F 26 Feb 09
A girl of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, needing a little more width at the top, ears of adequate size set in line. Small dip in profile and bump on the nose, firm slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape though a little full, slightly deep set, of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs another inch to balance. Points a pale lilac-based caramel showing sufficient browny overtones, lightly shaded body, coat short but rather harsh in texture. Did not much enjoy being handled, but without malice; excellent presentation.
BOB Withers's GR CH TINTALLY TICKERTY BOO F 15 May 10
A very attractive girl of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and of a superb depth of blue, unusual to see in any colour and particular in a caramel point. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a really good, very brown hued, lilac based caramel - nice to have a more or less perfect example of just what the colour should look like. Body very lightly shaded, coat close lying and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Also considered Withers's GR CH TINTALLY TIME-LORD M 9 May 10
An extremely handsome lad of excellent type and maturity (surprising considering his age), with wonderful strength of head. Long even wedge with good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile perhaps a shade flat over the forehead, unfortunately the chin ebbs distinctly, bite level. Eyes of excellent shape and set, of quite a good depth of blue. Long weighty muscular body, long legs with largish paws, balancing length of tail. Points lilac-based caramel with a good browny overcast, body lightly shaded along the back. Coat short, close-lying and of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. While it's difficult to ignore his strength of head, the weakness of his chin and the excellence of the girl's colour of points and eyes just gave her the edge over him for BOB.

Tortie Point Neuter

BOB Weatherill's PR BURNTHWAITES GOOD-TIME-GAL (32b1) FN 13 Aug 10
A substantial girl of good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a bump on the nose, firm though rather shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points of dark seal all well mingled with shades of red, some bright red to be seen. Lightly shaded body, coat close-lying and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Expressive eyes of good shape and set and good green colour. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. 2 Denyer's MERESCLIFF SORREL (37k) M 29 May 09
A strong masculine lad of good type. Long wedge with heavy jowls, needing a little more width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape, a little full, well set and of a pale green. Long firm muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Colour a darkish though warm cinnamon, coloured to the roots but rather patchy and showing spotty ghosting, darker in colour along the back. Coat short and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AV Oriental Radius Kitten

1 Webster's NANPEMA FIDELIO (37d) M 2 May 11
A promising well-grown youngster of very good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, olive green in colour. Long firm body, the manubrium a little prominent as yet, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a very good bright rich red sound to the roots, with the perennial problem for self reds of showing a clear spotted pattern. Coat close lying and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AV Oriental Visitors Kitten

1 Nelson's SKYBLUEPINK TWILIGHT GEM (37p) F
2 Fulcher's SANDIMESE RAZZLE DAZZLE (35) M 12 Mar 11

AV Oriental Breeders Neuter

1 Webster's GR PR NANPEMA FLAMENCO (37d) MN 8 Mar 10
A large lad of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, bite scissored. Eyes of very good shape and set of an olive green. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction to balance. Colour a bright rich red, sound to the roots, showing permissible (very good actually) spotted pattern, which interestingly seems to be classic-based. Coat short and close-lying, of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Nelson's GR PR TIDLYPOO JUSTIN THYME (38d) MN 25 Feb 06
A large lad of good type. Medium length wedge, good width at the top, well set ears which I would prefer to be a little larger. Small dip in profile, chin ebbs slightly, level bite lacking many incisors. Eyes of good shape and set olive green in colour. Long well fed body, long legs with large paws, tail needs an extra inch. Colour a rich though slightly dull red, showing better contrast with the ground colour than previously. Good facial markings, well broken spine line, the spotting on the body rather linked, better on the right side than the left, sound to the roots but showing substantial agouti invasion. Coat short and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AV Oriental Non-Breeders Neuter

2 Holdsworth's GR CH BILLSTES CINFULLY CINNAMON (32b7) 12 Feb 09

Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction. Points of slightly dark warm cinnamon well mingled with shades of red, though not much evidence of the brighter shades. Coat short and close lying and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A pleasing girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape, just slightly full, well set and needing a little more depth of blue. Long slender body, needing more substance, but it looks as though she has recently kittened. Lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
