Wessex Cat Club - 3 March 2012

Another excellent and friendly show run by the Robinson family, to whom my thanks for the invitation. Thanks also to Rosie for coming along to steward for me. As with most sports halls, the lighting presented a challenge, completely washing out the brightness from all red series cats, so in several cases cats had to receive the benefit of the doubt as to the quality of their colour.

Open Classes

AC Siamese Grand Champion Male

IGCC Davis's GR CH DORAL KID CREOLE (32/5) 11 Jul 09
A large and handsome lad of very good type, but such a shrinking violet! Long almost even wedge, some jowling, good width at the top, large ears well set. Eyes of excellent shape and set and good depth of blue. Small bump on the nose and profile angled down slightly from the brow, firm deep chin, bite level though lacking many lower incisors. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Marked in a darkish red good "M", single ribbon, good thumbprints, leg bars need looking for but present, tail three-quarters ringed. Body lightly shaded along the back, coat close, mostly of good texture, just a little harsh along the spine towards the rear. Excellent presentation; no problem to handle but I do wish he would enjoy it more.

AC Siamese Grand Champion Female

IGCC Budden's GR CH JOMESE JAZEERA (32b1) 29 Jan 10
A substantial girl of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and of good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Points of dark warm seal well mingled with shades of red, including some darker shades. Moderately shaded body; coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Not a straightforward decision, but I thought she just made the grade.
2 (Res N/A) Fairclough's GR CH ZARAFA ALLOWEEN (32a) 2 Aug 09
A girl of very good type, a little smaller than I should ideally like. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip to the profile and quite a large bump on the nose, firm chin, bite level though lacking many lower incisors. Eyes of excellent shape and set and very good depth of blue. Long firm body unfortunately with a prominent slightly protruding xiphysternum, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Difficult to asses the points colour except that it seemed on the pale side, Almost unshaded body, coat a fraction long but of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Havana Adult

1 (CC N/A) Turner's ADELFSH JAYELS PRETTY-MISS F 26 May 11
A girl of reasonably good type, needing to develop a bit to look adult. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, needs a little more width at the top, large ears set in line. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of an olive green (certainly not the vivid green required by the SOP). Long firm body long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Colour rather a dark though warm chestnut, fairly unsound and showing heavy ghost spotting to the sides. Coat close and of excellent texture. Superb temperament, a real time waster; excellent presentation.

Foreign White Adult

BOB Pauls's CH ROZANDEN WHITE SAPPHIRE F 25 Jun 10
A girl of good type, I would prefer her a little bigger but she is certainly well balanced. Long almost even wedge, needing a little more width at the top to balance, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape set a little straight, of a good depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction to balance. Colour a good pure white, though on the end of the nose the fur is rather sparse, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Bicolour Adult Male

1+CC Bright's MYRKARI MANHATTAN (48 40d) 9 May 11
A large lad of good type, adequately mature for his age. Longish even wedge, good width to the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long strong body long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a reasonable red, unshaded body, which gave a problem with the assessment of degree of white since it was visually impossible to tell the difference between white and body colour but it felt as though the underside was completely white and there was some on the upper right side. What could be seen was some to forehead, cheeks and all paws. I think it all came to a little over a third white. Coat close and of excellent texture; excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Terry's CORSICAN CLAUDE DE'CARPET (48 40bt) 2 Jun 10
A lad of good if rather heavy type. Medium length broad wedge, small pinch, moderate jowls, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin ebbs slightly, bite level. Eyes of good shape and set, would ideally be a little deeper blue but given that there is white close to them on the mask that would be difficult. Long strong body, long strong legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch. Tabby markings in a darkish warm chocolate, lightly shaded body. White to most of the front legs, some to the hind legs, and inverted V on the face, and to the complete underbody - a little over the required third. Coat short and close-lying; excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Bicolour Adult Female

1+CC+BOB Wills's KASSALIC ITSAKINDAMAJIK (48 40h) 4 Mar 11
A young girl of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight other than a shallow depression to her forehead, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long slender but muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a dark warm chocolate patched with shades of red, white to all limbs, the head (a patch on the forehead exaggerating the visual effect of the depression) and most of the underbody - just over a third in all. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent presentation and affectionate temperament (calling I think).

Oriental Tortie Neuter

BOB Lee's CH & UK IMP GR CH WILLHAVETODO OUIJA BOARD (37p) 27 May 06
Easily the best cat I had to judge on the day, of excellent type and colour - the only red series cat on the day whose red (apricot mingling in her case of course) overcame the handicap of the hall lighting and showed some warmth. No exaggeration to her whatever, coat short and close lying and of superb texture, I could fault her only on her tail which by no stretch of the imagination could be thought long enough to balance her body length.

Oriental Smoke Neuter

BOB N/A Stanbridge's GR PR GENTANTIQUE AVALON (42k) MN 18 Dec 06
A large lad of fairly good type. Medium length wedge, rather broad in the muzzle and needing more width at the top, ears need to be larger and are set a little high. Dip in profile, chin deep but ebbs, level bite,. Eyes of good shape and set of a pale green. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Colour a darkish cinnamon, some silver breakthrough on the head, good silver undercolour to about half the hair length on the body. Coat short and close lying and of good texture. I found his type sufficiently un-oriental to preclude the award of Best of Breed, though I was somewhat torn because of his excellent pattern.

Tabby Point Siamese Adult

BOB Davis's GR CH DORAL KID CREOLE (32/5) M

Chocolate Point Siamese Neuter

1 (PC N/A) Wallace's ROZANDEN COSIMO MN 23 May 09
A handsome lad of very good type, his colour changed on the day from seal to chocolate. His paw pads, nose leather and coat colour all indicated that this was correct. Unfortunately the points colour though warm was very dark - too dark for me to be able to award a certificate - sorry. His type certainly was not a problem. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long firm ell fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Body moderately shaded, still showing good contrast. Coat short and close-lying. Excellent presentation; temperament excellent if wary.
BOB Crumpler's PR SARNAJES SULTANOFSWING MN 3 Feb 08
A lad of good type. Long wedge, a little square in the muzzle and with a pinch, top needs a little more width, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch. Points quite a dark chocolate, with adequate warmth, made to appear better by being rather brindled- unlike the other boy's, I found these to lie just the right side of acceptability. Lightly shaded body, coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Caramel Point Siamese Neuter Male

BOB Martin's GR PR ABICASA PEER GYNT 14 Feb 08
A handsome large lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top with a small bump at the rear, large ears which he could hold in the right place but mostly flattened (which I nevertheless forgave him). Straight profile, firm chin, level bite lacking many incisors. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good depth of blue. Long muscular well-fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail with a small irregularity a little way from the end. Points of a good sludgy blue-based caramel, moderately shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament though a little retiring; excellent presentation.

Caramel Point Siamese Neuter Female

1+PC Martin's GR CH ABICASA NELLA FANTASIA 12 Dec 09
A girl of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, large ears held a little low at the best of tines and which she did have a tendency to bonnet. Straight profile, chin ebbs slightly, bite scissored over. Eyes of very good shape and set needing a little more depth of blue. Long firm muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points of a dark sludgy blue-based caramel, moderately shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Miscellaneous Classes

AC Oriental Non-Self Adult

1 Kitchener's SHERMESE DAISYCHAIN (45b) F 12 Feb 11
A dainty girl of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight other than a bump at the end of the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good green. Long slender but muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Pattern colour a darkish warm chocolate, warm toffee ground colour, 2 bands of even ticking, a little darker on the dorsal line. Coat shot and close-lying, of excellent texture. A talkative girl, some of it uncomplimentary, but handled well; excellent presentation.
2 Bauerfeind's IMP GR CH SHIMILEETA TOSEXYFORMYFUR (43b) M 18 Apr 09
A lad of very good type, looking really masculine. Longish strong wedge, rather jowly now, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip to profile, firm chin, bite level if rather untidy. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good green. Long weighty muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail almost balancing. Pattern colour a darkish warm chocolate, pale toffee undercolour covering about two-thirds of the hair shaft, mostly ticked but a clearer broken surface barring than I'd prefer. Coat close and of very good texture. Excellent temperament though not an extrovert; excellent presentation.
3 Miller's CH WILLHAVETODO WHATAMIXUP (43e) F 14 Jan 11
An attractive young girl of excellent type. Strong long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set, olive green in colour. Long slender body, which I would prefer to have more substance, but she's young yet; long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour black well mingled with shades of red, undercolour half-way up but grey at the roots of the black hairs. Short close-lying coat of excellent texture, showing rather too much superficial spotted pattern. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AC Siamese/Balinese Self-Pointed Adult

1 Campbell's LUSITANIA SLINKY PALUKIE (24c) F 26 Apr 11
A girl of good type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin, bite level. Eyes of good shape and set and of a reasonably good depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points quite a good lilac, unshaded body, coat close and of good texture. Excellent presentation, but her temperament definitely leaves something to be desired - perhaps she thought that judge's fingers would make a nice change to her diet.

AC Oriental Breeders Kitten

1 Roper's ISSAMELLE TOULOUSE (29c) MN 18 Jun 11
A lad of good type, a little lacking in masculinity at present. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set os a very good vivid green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a good lilac, rather unsound and showing overmuch ghost spotted pattern to the body. Coat short and close, of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AC Oriental Non-Breeders Kitten

1 Miller's BARBECCO MIRANDA (37k) F 16 Jun 11
A girl of very good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good green. Long muscular body, just a little tense, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a darkish warm cinnamon, almost sound and commendably free of ghost markings, short close-lying coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Cullin's SHERMESE IN THE PICTURE (45k) F 1 Sep 11
A girl of excellent type, ideally at six months she would be a little bigger. Strong medium length wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, pugilistic chin, bite markedly undershot. Eyes of good shape and set and a good green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Beautifully even ticking in a rich warm cinnamon, short coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Sadly thanks to her bite I did not feel I could place her first as she otherwise deserved; I do hope it sorts itself out as she grows.
3 Mackechnie's BUNDOOK MELANITE (62 43s) F 12 Jun 11
A girl of reasonably good type. Medium length wedge, needing a little more width to the top, ears needing a little more size and held rather high. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape though on the full side, of a clear green. Long well fed body, long legs, tail needs an extra fraction. Coat needs more length given that she is almost adult, though the texture is excellent, well furnished plume. Clear silver undercolour a little over half way up the hair shaft at present, leaving rather too clear a surface pattern visible, all extremities rather tarnished. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AV Maiden Kitten

1 Wallace's JOHPAS IN THE RED (32a) M 22 Oct 11
A promising baby of very good type. Medium length wedge, very short as yet from the eyes down, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, I should prefer a deeper shade of blue. Proportionate firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Markings coming, only the start of the "M" and three quarters ringed tail evident as yet. Unshaded baby coat. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 McAlpine's ABICASA LUELLA PELAGIA (24a) F 1 Nov 11
A pretty and very friendly baby of good type. Medium length wedge with a tiny pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape when relaxed (she did expand them rather when initially taken out), set rather straight, of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, long tail. Points a slightly dark blue, body unshaded but not really glacial, sadly par for the course these days. Coat short and of good texture.
X2 Martin's SHERMESE MELODY (24) F 8 Jul 11
A girl of good type, though at nearly eight months I should have preferred her bigger. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set needing a little more depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Dense warm seal points, lightly shaded body, short close-lying coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AV Debutante Neuter

1 Miller's PENDLEMIST RAPHAELITE (32/2) MN 30 Mar 11
A lad of good type, of adequate maturity for his age. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set needing more depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Markings in a good blue are all rather blurred as is often the case with dilute tabbies, tail fully ringed and he does actually have thumbprints (very unusually for a dilute). Lightly shaded body except on the upper back where he has obviously been plucking himself and it's grown back darker. Short coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AV Aristocrat Neuter

1 Woodhouse's PR DORAL NAJINSKI (32/5) MN 15 Jan 11
A handsome lad of very good type, just needing some self-confidence to show himself off better. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, very firm chin, bite level. Well set eyes of good shape though a little fuller than I should like, of a very good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Well marked in a rather pale red, good facial markings and tail rings, leg bars hardly visible as yet. Unshaded body, short coat of excellent texture. Excellent presentation, handled perfectly.
2 Moore & Gilchrist's SMARTYBOOTS NIMROD (32/5) MN 9 Oct 07
A lad of good type. Long wedge, a little overlong in the muzzle, good width at the top, ears well set but ideally would be a little larger. Dip in profile below the brow, firm slightly shallow chin, bite level. Eyes of good shape and set needing a little more depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Marked in a dark red, good "M", single ribbons and thumbprints, leg bars present but pale, tail about one third ringed. Body moderately shaded, coat short but a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

HHP Miscellaneous Classes

Best Groomed Longhair or Semi-Longhair

A large class and very difficult to judge with many who went prizeless deserving better.
1 Winn's BERTIE (Black Golden LH) MN 9 months
A longhair lad with masses of coat and attractive furnishings, super soft-textured coat with not a hair out of place.
2 Gardner's KEYSTONE ARIETTA (Blue Cream LH) F 7 months
An attractive girl with a super longhair coat, in excellent condition
3 Pearson's GMC HOLLY (Seal Point SLH) FN 3 yrs 3 mths
X3 Smith's CANDICE (Black Calico SLH) F 4 mths

AC Born January - June

1 Miller's MC OLLIVANDER (Red SH) MN 1 yr
A Burmese lad of superb temperament with one of the loudest purrs I have heard, quite unwilling to go backing his pen (not that my steward wanted to let him go back). Short coat of excellent texture, of an attractive bright red as far as the light let us see. Later on my choice for best Pedigree pet - I think he epitomizes all a Household Pet should be.
2 Emery's MC TABITHA (Silver Tabby & White SH) 2 yrs 10 mths
A large very friendly silver classic tabby with white. Pale green eyes, neat ears. Coat longish and plush-textured, attractively marked. Excellent presentation.
3 Becket's BLUE (Blue Spotted Tabby) MN 7 mths

AC Born July - December

1 Pearson's GMC HOLLY (Seal Point SLH) FN 3 yrs 3 mths
A handsome large lad, placid and easy to handle, with pale blue eyes contrasting with his warm seal brown face. Excellent semi long-haired coat, profuse and of a soft texture, not a hair out of place.
