Eastern Counties CS and Bombay & Asian Breed Club- 13 July 2013

Thanks to Audrey and the show committee for the invitation to judge at my most local show. A reasonably sized Siamese and Oriental entry, with a set of Oriental kittens which were outstanding in quality. I also had some challenging well-packed side classes to judge from a outstandingly large Household Pet section.

Open Classes

Oriental Imperial Grand Champion Female

1 (IGCC N/A) Moores's GR CH KINKAJEWSDEN EILEENA (37p) 31 Oct 09
A mature girl of good type. Long fairly even wedge needing a little more width at the top, large ears set in line. Profile slightly raised at the brow, firm deep chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a pale slightly yellowy green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, fine tail needing an extra inch. Colour an attractive mingling of mid lilac-based caramel with shades of warm apricot, unfortunately rather unsound. Coat a little long but close lying and of very good texture; excellent temperament and presentation. I'm afraid that, for me at this level, she really needs a little bit extra in type, and the unsoundness helped to confirm the decision.

Siamese/Balinese Imperial Grand Premier Male

1 (IGPC N/A) Jakeman's GR PR SHERMESE THELONIUS (32/2) 16 May 08
A lad of very good type, looking quite lovely head on. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile rather flat over the top of the head and with a substantial dip blow the brow, chin firm but on the shallow side so that the muzzle lacks depth; bite level. Eyes of very good shape, well set and of a very good depth of blue. Long well fed body body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch or two. Marked in quite a good soft blue, and the definition of the markings remarkably good for a blue at this age - good facial markings (no thumbprints as is not unexpected), tail completely ringed though the rings blurred at the base. Lightly shaded body , close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Grand Premier Male

GPC Aggett's PR LABASH ONE DIRECTION (35) 11 Oct 11
A substantial lad of superior type. Longish even wedge, perhaps ideally needing a little more width at the top, large ears which he does raise at times. Very good straight profile, firm very deep chin and level bite. Eyes set a little far apart due to the broad base of his nose, which also makes them appear a little deep set; their shape and set is good when he opens them; ideally I would prefer a little more depth of blue but I found the colour perfectly acceptable. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Colour a pure brilliant white, coat short and close, of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Siamese/Balinese Grand Champion Male

GCC Ellams's CH JAKURTZZI D'ARTAGNAN (32fn) 23 Jul 12
A very handsome lad of excellent type, very mature considering his age. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm deep chin, bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good depth of blue, the nose a little broad at the base resulting in their being set a little farther apart than I should ideally prefer. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a palish apricot with very evident browny overtones, very lightly shaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Siamese/Balinese Grand Champion Female

1 (GCC N/A) Richards's CH DEBIKAT BORNTHISWAY (24n) 9 Dec 11
A sweet tempered girl of very good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, Large ears held rather low. Profile rather flat over the forehead and with a dip below the brow, chin ebbs slightly, bite scissored over. Eyes of excellent shape and set needing rather more depth of blue, the haws up somewhat. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a dark very browny blue-based caramel, lightly shaded body, coat close and of excellent texture. Super temperament, excellent presentation. I'm afraid all the little niggles added up for me to her not quite deserving a certificate at this level, though she was near enough that I had to think quite hard about it.

Oriental Caramel Adult

BOB Denyer's CH BARDSONG BANOFFEE PIE (37n) 10 May 10
A lad of good type. Medium length almost even wedge, quite heavily jowled, top a shade narrower than ideal, large ears of good set. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of a very good green. Long lean muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Colour a darkish lilac-based caramel showing adequate browny overtones, good for soundness and clear of ghost markings. Short coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Lilac Kitten

1+BOB Debowska's VELVETENA GIFT-WRAPPED (29c) F 14 Mar 13
A charming baby of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears which she does bonnet at times. Profile straight apart from a small bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a super green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a good pinky lilac, sound to the roots, showing some ghost spotting but not excessively so. Coat short and close, of good texture. Excellent extrovert temperament, excellent presentation.

Tabby Point Siamese Adult

1+CC+BOB Hargan's WHALLEYBUSH DOPEY MAIA (32/8) F 31 Aug 12
An adolescent girl of good type. Medium length even wedge needing a fraction more width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, needing a little more depth of blue. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Marked in a very brown-toned lilac-based caramel, good markings to the head, fully ringed tail, adequate leg bars. Unshaded body, coat short and close, of good texture. Grumbled constantly but handled well, excellent presentation. While she would benefit from more time, I found her development adequate for her age, and was therefore prepared to award the certificate after some deliberation.

Apricot Point Siamese Adult

BOB Ellams's CH JAKURTZZI D'ARTAGNAN (32fn) M

Fawn Point Siamese Adult

1+IC+BOB Jackson-Lee's NIGHTQUEEN ROULETTE M 2 Jul 12
A handsome lad of very good type, easily the best fawn point I have seen. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, bite scissored over. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a good depth of blue, unusually so for a fawn. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a very good warm mushroom, unshaded body, coat close and of good texture albeit a little moth-eaten in appearance below the nape of the neck. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Seal Point Siamese Neuter

BOB Powell's CH & PR MAFDET MEDUSA (24) FN 24 Jan 12
A girl of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, large ears held fractionally low. Profile straight other than a small bump on the nose, firm slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, I would prefer slightly more depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a dark warm seal, body quite heavily shaded but still showing adequate contrast, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tabby Point Siamese Neuter

1+PC+BOB Ellis's STYPERSON CRACKERJACK (32/8) MN 13 Aug 12
A well developed adolescent of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a small bump on the nose, firm deep chin, bite almost level. Eyes of good shape and set but rather small and deep set, of a reasonably good depth of blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Well marked in a palish but very brown-toned lilac-based caramel, good markings to the head including thumbprints, tail two thirds ringed, legs markings faint but present. Unshaded body, short close coat a little harsh in texture. Excellent temperament though not over-keen on leaving the safety of his pen, excellent presentation.
Also considered for BOB Jakeman's GR PR SHERMESE THELONIUS (32/2) MN

Miscellaneous Classes

Oriental Debutant Kitten

An excellent class of five extremely promising kittens (with the lilac to whom I had given BoB bringing up the rear) - any of them well deserved a first place if on their own, and there really was not much separating them.
1 Zaoui's CIATRA BETTINABOOP (37) F 5 Mar 13
A charming baby of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a good green. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of stringy tail. Colour jet black sound to the roots, coat short and close of very good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Titterall's ICKLE SUMMER-FLOWER (48 40) F 29 Jan 13
A lovely girl of very good type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch and a little broad in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of a good depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Mostly white, about three quarters I would estimate, lightly shaded body giving clear contrast with the white areas, the seal rather dark. Excellent temperament and presentation.
3 Moores's RIMCHAR MARTHA MIA (35) F 15 Feb 13
A petite girl of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a very shallow depression above the brow, not unusual at her age and I would expect it to fill in. Firm deep chin with an attractive beard, bite level. Eyes of very good shape set a little straight, needing slightly more depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a pure white, coat short and close, of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
x3 Bailey's VELVETENA FELICITATIONS (37r) F 14 Mar 13
An attractive baby of very good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile slightly uneven, firm chin, bite scissored over. Eyes of excellent shape and set and a good green, just a little muddy as yet. Long slender body which I would like to see better covered, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Very good warm fawn colouring, sound to the roots and free of ghost markings. Coat a fraction long but of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Non-Breeders Neuter Male

1 Castelli's GR PR SENSAY SORBET N CREAM (48 38f) MN 14 Feb 11
A large sweet-tempered lad of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of an olive green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, well tapered tail ideally needs an extra fraction in length. Colour a slightly dark and rather warm cream, sound and showing a fairly good spotted pattern on one side, less so on the other. Lots of white in the required places, adding up to about half white to colour. Coat short and close lying, of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AC Siamese/Balinese Adult

1 Hargan's WHALLEYBUSH RELAY KISCHKA (24n) F 31 Aug 12
A girl of superior type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, and good depth of colour. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a palish blue-based caramel, with just about adequate browny overtones, lightly shaded body, coat close and of good texture. Good temperament if argumentative, excellent presentation.
A difficult class to place, while the older girl was more the finished article, she also had more wrong with her, and in sum I concluded narrowly came second.
2 Richards's CH DEBIKAT BORNTHISWAY (24n) F

AC Siamese/Balinese Non-Breeders Kitten

1 Clayden's MAFDET MASTER TITIAN (24n) M 12 Jan 13
A well grown lad of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape if slightly full, well set, I would prefer slightly more depth of blue Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Household Pet Miscellaneous Classes

AC Pedigree Pet Male First Time Show at ACCS

1 Newton's BANDIT (Red Tabby Point SLH) MN 5 mths
A very friendly red point Semi-Long Hair of Birman type, amazingly well grown considering his age, and I think destined to be a large boy when grown - huge feet at present. Masses of coat of super texture, and the only longhair I handled not to be shedding it to some degree in the unwonted heat. Wonderful temperament, kneading away all the time he was handled, and loath to be returned to his pen.
2 Kidd's IGMC EDWIN (Blue Silver Tabby SH) MN 2 yrs
A lad of British type, gentle and easy to handle but perhaps a shade reserved in demeanour. Coat short, plush and springy, nicely marked in dark blue. Attractive amber eyes.
x2 Beckett's PEANUT (Red Spotted Tabby SH) M 4 mths
A hyperactive red spotted kitten practicing his calisthenics on the pen bars, when out very wriggly, eager to be off and explore the show hall. A well grown lad, with rich red colouring and a short smooth coat.
3 Hutchinson's MC MARIUS (Colourpoint SH) MN 1yr 2mths
A friendly lad with a brown Tonkinese coat pattern (but not type), and attractive turquoise eyes, the most amazing length of whiskers. Coat length which was at the longer end of short, a little harsh to the touch. Alert lad, keen to be handled.

Best Groomed Non-Pedigree SH

1 Sales's GMC BILL (Tabby & White) MN 1yr 9mths
An extremely friendly brown classic tabby & white lad, with excellent coat condition and texture, the main criterion in this class, but his winning purr didn't harm his chances either.
2 Worthington & Ashman's JASPER (Ginger) MN 2yrs 7mths
A ginger lad with a classic tabby pattern in a rich colour, coat short and the texture soft but with a bit of resistance to the touch .
3 Pritchard's OLIVER (Black) MN 2 yrs
A handsome big black boy with a thick short coat just a little harsh in texture and shedding a little (not surprisingly in the heat), happier in the safe environment of his pen.

Best Groomed Pedigree SH

Really difficult to choose between these three boys, all shown with coats in wonderful condition, very little if anything to separate them.
1 Murton's GMC ZIGGY STARDUST (Silver Spotted Tabby) MN 1 yr
A very attractively marked black silver tabby, and very friendly. Coat short and sleek, in excellent condition
2 Castelli's GMC STUART LITTLE (Blue Tabby & White) MN 1yr 5mths
Blue (or maybe caramel) tabby & white oriental bicolour, extremely friendly and eager to be handled as befits his breed, coat on the long side but close lying, not a hair out of place.
3 Hutchison's GMC RASTA (Black) MN 4 yrs 4mths
Large black lad of Asian type. Glossy dense black coat with a lovely silky texture.

Bombay & Asian Breed Club - Neuter or Kitten with the longest whiskers

Not much to say about this class, given the criterion for placing, except that Marius was unlucky; though his whiskers were definitely slightly shorter than the winner's, a long-haired cat has an inbuilt advantage in the whisker department.

1 Brock's IGMC ALIKAT PACCINO (Blue colourpount SLH) MN 4 yrs
2 Hutchison's MC MARIUS (Colourpoint SH) MN
3 Brown's ARIEL (Black SH) 1 yr 3 mths

Bombay & Asian Breed Club - Most Handsome Neuter/Kitten

With 13 cats entered and all present, this class was something of a headache to judge - pity we don't get anything like this in the pedigree section these days. Inevitably some cats went away rosette-less. Unfortunately, I managed to lose my bearings in writing in the placings for the class, so that my intended second placing for BISCUIT was written one line further down - the result reported here was what went up on the award board. I can only apologise to the owners of both cats.
1 Coupland & Brown's IGMC BARNEY RUBBLES (Blue colourpoint SLH) MN 7 yrs
A lad of generous proportions with huge paws. Very friendly, with a long full coat with a soft texture, he was eager for a tummy tickle on return to his pen.
2 Tolhurst's GMC TIMMY (Ginger & White SH) MN 10 years
A large lad who, by the time I reached him, wasn't too keen to be handled - perhaps the heat had got to him.
x2 Passfield-Taylor's IGMC PYE-PYE (Tabby & White SLH) MN 5 yrs 3 mths
A substantial friendly tabby lad with white paws and tummy, expressive pale blue eyes and masses of soft semi-long coat in excellent condition.
3 Murton's GMC ZIGGY STARDUST
x3 Castelli's GMC STUART LITTLE (Blue Tabby & White) MN
x3 Kidd's IGMC EDWIN (Blue Silver Tabby SH) MN
Unplaced Hutchison's IGMC BISCUIT (Ginger & White SH) MN 5 yrs 10 mths
A handsome large and solid lad, with rich ginger tabby markings and sparkling white areas. Not one to enjoy a cuddle, but eager to walk out onto the trolley and be fussed.
