Kernow Cat Club - 30 March 2013

Thanks to Maureen and the committee for the invitation to judge and for the hospitality; the hot lunch was especially welcome on a cold day. Thanks also to Paula for stewarding for me, the first time but I hope soon to be repeated. The standard was high - I found the decision for best Oriental neuter particularly challenging; none of the contestants would have been out of place receiving that honour, but two stood out in their very different ways, and if in the end WILLHAVETODO OUIJA BOARD won out over KIMELPHA FREDDYREDSPOTS it was by the smallest possible margin.

Open Classes

AC Siamese/Balinese Grand Premier Female

IGPC Pounds's GR PR JOMESE JENNI-IGOTBLUSPOTS (32b2) FN 2 Nov 10
A girl of excellent type, easily the best Siamese I handled on the day. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set, of a very good brilliant deep blue. Long firm muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail almost balances. Points of a good blue well mingled with shades of mostly cool cream, just a little warm on the tail, moderately shaded body. Coat short, close lying and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Res Miller's IMP GR CH & GR PR CATLANTIC CHANEL (32b1) FN 17 Jul 08
A girl of very good type, looking her best today - better I think than I have ever seen her. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile slightly raised at the brow but otherwise straight, firm chin, bite lacking all but one incisor but appears level. Eyes of very good shape and set, just a fraction deep set, of a good depth of blue which could be brighter. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points of a good seal well broken with shades of red, though there was plenty of foreground red in evidence it was all rather pale. Body moderately shaded, coat a fraction long but of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Also considered Drummond's GR PR ABICASA MOONSHADOW (24c) FN 1 Jun 10
A girl of very good type. Long wedge, needing just a fraction more width at the top for balance, well set large ears. Profile straight except just a little raised at the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set but a little deep set, ideally they would be a slightly deeper blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points of a good pinky toned lilac - good to see that the pinky tone has not completely disappeared from the breed as I was foolish enough to say in a recent report - the tail just a little darker. Lightly shaded body, coat close and of excellent texture. A sweet girl, temperament and presentation excellent. Someone had to lose out today, but in other company I would have been happy to award her a certificate at this level.

AC Oriental Premier Male

GPC Wells-McCulloch's PR BUURAPHAA BUDDY (42d) MN 28 Sep 11
A handsome large lad of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of an olive green. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. The initial impression is very definitely of a self red cat, showing an acceptable degree of spotted pattern, the red deep and rich toned, and with no sign of silver breakthrough on the head. However, there is definite silver underneath the top colour over all the body, to about half of the hair length making him a good example of a smoke. Coat very short and close, and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Shaded Adult

1+CC Keightley's SHURIKEN FELEENA (43e) F 30 Jun 12
A girl of good type, with some growing to do but then she was only just adult, and showing sufficient maturity. Medium length wedge, small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin, bite scissored over. Eyes of good shape and set, rather full out of the pen, of a two-tone olive green. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch. Top colour black mingled with shades of red, with a pleasing amount of rich red evident, the undercolour extending to about the bottom half of the hair, with little tabby pattern visible on the body. Close coat of good texture. In temperament rather fractious and with a wide range of invective, needing care to handle; presentation excellent.
BOB Miller's GR CH WILLHAVETODO WHATAMIXUP (43e) F 14 Jan 11
A girl of superior type, not the largest but with a solid feel to her. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile, while basically straight, is angled down rather from the bridge and as a result the front of the head could do with greater depth, chin firm and bite level. Eyes of good shape and set, olive green in colour. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Black top colour mingled with shades of red, plenty of bright red present, undercolour to about half the hair length, very faint surface spotted pattern. Coat short and close of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Bicolour Adult

BOB Wright's CH COCOBA CANDI TWIST (48 40e) F 11 Jan 11
A nicely balanced girl of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip to profile, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points colour dark seal with shades of slightly pale red, moderately shaded body. Fair amount of white to the head, white to throat, almost the whole underbody and a little up the sides, though there is a small invasion of colour just in front of her hind legs, substantial white to all limbs and some on the upper body, in all a little over the required third. Attractive white tip to her tail. Coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Also considered Wills's GR CH KASSALIC ITSAKINDAMAJIK (48 40h) F 4 Mar 11
A girl of very good type. Long wedge, needing a little more width at the top to balance, well set large ears. Small dip to profile and a very shallow depression above the brow, front of the head rather angled though the chin is firm enough, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and of a good depth of blue. Points a very dark chocolate with shades of bright red, moderately shaded body. White to the complete underbody, some to all limbs and head, definitely borderline for amount of white but I think just the right side of it. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Tortie Kitten

1+BOB Pounds's SIAMSPICE CINNFULLY JOMESE (37m) F 6 Nov 12
A promising baby of good type. Wedge a little short at present and with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small bump on the nose but profile otherwise straight, firm deep chin, bite level. Eyes of good shape and set of a palish green. Proportionate firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a good warm cinnamon almost sound to the roots, sparsely mingled with pale red - I hope this develops as she grows - and showing moderate ghost markings. Coat short and close lying of excellent texture, though feeling the cold a bit. Excellent temperament, a real time waster, presentation excellent too.

Oriental Cream or Apricot Kitten

1+BOB Miller's PASHTAN RIO GRANDE (37f) MN 5 Aug 12
A well grown lad of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Eyes of good shape set a little straight, of a fairly good green., Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a pale cool cream showing faint spotted markings, not quite sound. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Cinnamon Kitten

1+BOB Webster's SPICESIAM BEDAZZLED (37k) F 6 Nov 12
A well grown girl of very good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of a slightly muddy green as yet. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a darkish warm cinnamon sound to the roots but showing a moderate ghost spotted pattern, a few isolated white hairs to the underbody. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Longhair Neuter

BOB Rice's GR PR LORICHA LUCKY JIM (62 18) MN 29 Dec 09
A lad of superior type, though I should prefer a more masculine appearance. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, olive green in colour. Long weighty body, long legs with neatish paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Pattern colour jet black with a clear silver ground, good facial markings, well separated spots to the body, separate spine lines though they could be better broken longitudinally, fairly well ringed tail. Some tarnishing to muzzle and all legs. Coat on the short side though of excellent texture, frilling a little round the neck, quite good plume. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Seal Point Siamese Adult Male

1 (CC N/A) Cruse's DOOLALLY DARTAGNAN 26 Jun 12
A lad of good type, only just adult, but unfortunately still giving the impression of a large kitten. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and good blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, long tail. Points a darkish seal all rather brindled, lightly shaded body which I would prefer warmer in tone. Short coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Seal Point Siamese Adult Female

1+CC+BOB Rochefort's ROCHEROS MALIKA 8 Sep 11
A rather retiring girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set ears of balancing size. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a brilliant blue though I should prefer a slightly deeper shade. Longish firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a good warm seal, slightly brindled to the paws, moderately shaded warm toned body. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Blue Point Siamese Adult Male

BOB Wills's CH SHELLADY MYSTICAL BOO 29 Jul 11
A medium sized solid lad of good type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, a little broad in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears, slight jowling. Small dip to profile, firm deep chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of a bright mid blue. Long firm muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch. Points quite a dark blue, body heavily shaded across the back of the head but still showing contrast, moderately shaded elsewhere but showing the correct glacial tones under the shading. Close coat of good texture, excellent temperament and presentation.

Blue Point Siamese Adult Female

1+CC Bell's MEDORAS GORGUS GUSSIE 27 Jun 12
A girl of good type, long wedge with rather a pinch and a little fine in the muzzle, a little more width needed at the top for balance, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, chin firm but a little shallow, bite level. Eyes a little wide but of good basic shape and set, and a good blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, tail needing an extra fraction. Points a darkish blue, faint ghost rings to tail, lightly shaded cool toned body. Close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament if inclined to hide, excellent presentation.

Miscellaneous Classes

AV Oriental Neuter

1 Lodwig's KIMELPHA FREDDYREDSPOTS (38ds) MN 27 Mar 12
An extremely well grown youngster of excellent type. Long even wedge though for me just a fraction long in the muzzle, broad top, well set large ears. Small bump on the nose but profile otherwise straight, firm deep chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of an olive green. Very long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Pattern colour a good bright red, the ground colour silver low on the sides, elsewhere more the colour expected from a standard though there was silver visible lower down the hairs, which will presumably come through when he is older; silver also visible at the base of the pattern hairs. Good facial markings, very good discrete spotting to sides, spine line broken though this aspect could be better, well ringed tail. Short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Cockwell's GR PR BARBECCO CHIEF CHIRPA (37d) MN 25 Oct 09
A large lad of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile a little angled down from the brow, firm slightly shallow chin, few incisors now but bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set and a good green colour. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Colour a rich red sound to the roots, showing rather more spotted pattern than I should prefer (though permitted by the SOP). Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AV Senior Oriental Neuter

1 Lee's CH & OBIGP WILLHAVETODO OUIJA BOARD (37p) FN 27 May 06
A girl of excellent unexaggerated type, and much more reconciled to the idea of being handled these days. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile just a little raised at the bridge now, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set, of a good green colour. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail which needs to be a lot longer. Colour a very good browny hued lilac-based caramel, sound to the roots, well broken with shades of apricot. Close coat of excellent texture, excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Rice's GR PR LORICHA LUCKY JIM (62 18) MN
3 Wills's GR PR WILLHAVETODO ONEOFTHELADZ (38b) MN 14 Jan 11
A large handsome lad of very good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip to profile, firm deep chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set though opened rather wide, of a pale green colour. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Pattern colour dark chocolate on a rather cool ground, good facial markings and well ringed tail, spotting on the body well defined albeit with some linkage at the front, and spine line well broken, but unfortunately there is quite a lot of agouti invasion and the markings are rather unsound. Close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A girl of good type, unfortunately completely lacking self-confidence. Medium length even wedge, a little broad in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile with a small dip and angled down from the brow, firm slightly shallow chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of an impressive depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Well marked in a darkish blue, lightly shaded body, coat close and of good texture. Excellent presentation.

1 Rochefort's ROCHEROS MALIKA (24) F

AC Siamese/Balinese Non-Breeders Adult

1 Pounds's GR CH SARNAU RED IKULUS (32a) M 4 Sep 11
Handsome lad of very good type, short as yet of full maturity but with time on his side. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile though slightly angled down from the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a super deep blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail could use an extra fraction. Points of a slightly pale but bright red, lightly shaded body, close coat of excellent texture. Superb temperament, excellent presentation.
2 Wills's CH SHELLADY MYSTICAL BOO (24a) M

AC Siamese/Balinese Novice Neuter

1 Baggott's DESTRIER MILKY WAY (24b) MN 1 Jul 11
A lad of reasonably good type. Long wedge, rather overlong in the muzzle and needing more width at the top to balance, large ears set in line. Small dip in profile and bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a distinctly dark chocolate though not without warmth, lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

AC Siamese/Balinese Neuter from Devon or Cornwall

1 Button's CH BETHANE BARNABY (24n) MN 7 Aug 09
A lad of good type, rather tetchy at the end of the day. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, needing a little more width at the top, large ears set in line. Profile almost straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set even if he did open them rather wide, of a good depth of blue. Longish firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. His points to me look more like a dark blue, without obvious browny overtones which at his age I should expect to be clear, the paw pads on the other do suggest caramel rather than blue. Body heavily shaded, giving contrast which was at best adequate, close coat of excellent texture. Excellent presentation.
