Red Point & Tortie Point Siamese C.C. - 6 April 2013

Thanks to Janet and the committee for the invitation to judge, and for the excellent food. An entry of high quality, particularly if unsurprisingly among the red series cats, with three neuters present which are as good as it gets. One of them, JOHPAS MIZMIXTURE, was by a distance my choice for best exhibit, but at the stage of choosing best neuter she was in my view only very narrowly separated from JOHPAS COEUR D'OR and JOHPAS JESSIE JAY (there seems to be a common feature there). Thanks to Joan who was an expert steward as always.

Open Classes

AC Grand Premier Male

IGPC Sheldon's GR PR JOHPAS COEUR D'OR (32a) 22 Oct 11
A large lad of excellent type. Long even wedge, very good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set and very good depth of blue. Long firm muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail almost balances. Points of a very good bright red, body just lightly shaded along the spine, coat close lying and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament though unfortunately he has rather gone off the idea of being handled; excellent presentation.
Res Muir-Taylor's GR PR JOHPAS FATBOYSLIM (32fn) 12 Feb 09
A large lad of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, large ears set a fraction low and which he does tend to bonnet which almost put him out of the running, but we did manage to persuade him to hold them correctly. Profile slightly raised at the bridge but otherwise straight, very firm deep chin, no incisors but gums appear level. Well set eyes of very good shape which he does open rather wide out of the open, of a very good depth of blue. Long strong muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail almost balances. Points of a pale apricot with plenty of the required dingy overtones. Body lightly shaded. Coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
Also considered Sibley's GR PR ATARIQ ROSSINI (24) 26 Jun 11
A large lad of very good type with colour problems on the day. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile angled down a little from the bridge, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, needing a little more depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points of a good seal but very brindled to the mask and showing spectacles, moderately shaded warm cream body, coat close and mainly of very good texture though a little harsh along the spine, Excellent temperament and presentation.
Blanks's GR PR JOHPAS RED EDDIE (32a) 6 Aug 09
A large lad of very good type. Long wedge with a small pinch and a little broad in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip to profile and a little bump on the nose, chin ebbs slightly, bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set needing more depth of blue. Very long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch. Points a slightly pale but bright red, lightly shaded body, coat a fraction long of good texture. AC Grand Premier Female

IGPC Cook's IGR CH & GR PR JOHPAS MIZMIXTURE (32b2) 14 Jul 10
A mature girl of excellent type. Long even wedge, for me just a fraction overlong in the muzzle, very good width at the top. well set large ears. Profile just a little raised at the bridge and with a small bump on the nose - missing a little bit of fur to the nose today - deep chin with a step to it, the upper part lining up but the lower a bit set back; bite almost level. Expressive eyes of excellent shape and set and of a good deep blue. Long strong body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points of a good blue very sparsely mingled with shades of cool cream, lightly shaded body, short close coat of excellent texture. Super temperament, excellent presentation..

Chocolate Point Adult

1+CC+BOB Reed's DRESTOTHRIL JOHPAS M 16 May 12
A very well grown and mature looking lad for his age, of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, large well set ears. Small bump to the nose, profile otherwise straight but angled down and the nose overshooting the front of the head so it is not ideally vertical, chin firm and bite level. Eyes of good shape and set and a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points of quite a dark chocolate, just within the range I consider acceptable, and showing adequate warmth, legs and tail rather brindled. Unshaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Caramel Point Neuter

1 (PC N/A) Mant's LAZIZA MYLO-XYLOTO MN 27 Nov 11
A young lad of very good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, chin ebbs slightly, bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set, needing significantly more depth of blue and paling towards the rim; also, with a cast inwards and upwards which we could not persuade him to abandon. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points of a good browny hued blue-based caramel, moderately shaded body, coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. Unfortunately the eyes meant I did not feel I could award a certificate which he otherwise deserved.

She gave me a real headache when voting for best Female Neuter, and though I thought the blue tortie girl just had the edge, it was by the smallest possible margin.

HHP Miscellaneous Classes

Friendliest Neuter or Kitten

An almost impossible class to judge with all of the cats on their best behaviour and having received tuition in how to suck up to judges, all keen for a cuddle except for BISCUIT who preferred to stand on the trolley and be fussed there. I wasn't allowed to give the four first prizes I thought fairest, so had to settle for three equal seconds.
1 Hutchison's IGMC BISCUIT (Ginger & White) MN 5 yr 6 m
A huge ginger & white lad
2 Ellis's TEDDY (Chocolate SH) MN 9 yr 11 m
A brown Burmese of comfortable proportions.
X2 Casbolt's MONTEVERDI Tabby & White SH) MN 1 yr
A spotted lad with some Bengal ancestry judging by his pattern, still a youngster.
X2 Langridge's GMC DEAR ALBERT (Red Tabby LH) MN 6 yr 7 m
A huge armful of a Main Coon with super soft coat texture
