Durham & N Counties - 31 May 2014
Thanks to both show management teams for the invitation to judge at this combined show. For once, it failed to clash with the Balinese Cat Society and Caramel & Apricot Federation shows, so I was able to accept. I thoroughly enjoyed my day, with some quality exhibits to judge, and the expert stewarding and good company of Jo Law.

GCC Veal & Smith's CH RIOBELLE LYRA (32b8) F
A pretty girl of very good type, on the small side but of good weight and substance. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile a little flat over the forehead and slightly raised at the brow, otherwise straight, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and a good depth of blue. Longish firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch to balance. Points palish lilac based caramel showing good browny overtones, mingled everywhere with shades of warm apricot. Lightly shaded body, short close coat though a trifle harsh in texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A girl of very good type and good maturity considering her age. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip to profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set of a good green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a slightly dark lilac coloured to the roots, short close coat of excellent texture. Very vocal but amenable to handling, excellent presentation.

An extremely handsome lad of very good type. Strong medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm deep chin, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a good green. Long muscular well fed body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Coloured areas black on a warm ground colour, pattern somewhat linked and with some agouti invasion, and could be sounder. The snag with him is the proportion of white, with only a narrow strip under the central part of his body, though it does broaden out to cover all the inner thighs, and the chest is completely white, and he has a good amount on all legs, it still amounts to my eyes to well under the required third. Short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A handsome lad of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a palish green. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, long tail with a small irregularity at the tip. Colour a glossy black sound to the roots, one or two isolated white hairs on the neck, short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament though retiring and unwilling to show himself off, excellent presentation.

A girl of reasonably good type. Longish wedge with quite a pinch, good width at the top, well set ears of adequate size. Substantial dip to profile, chin ebbs slightly, bite level though lacking most incisors. Eyes of good shape if a little full and showing the hint of a 'Siamese expression', well set, I would prefer a deeper blue but found their colour just acceptable. Medium length well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a good warm seal, body moderately shaded and having rather a 'pepper & salt' appearance, though quite warm toned. Short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A very attractive girl of very good type, I would definitely prefer her larger but she looks adequately mature for her age. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile just a little raised at the brow, otherwise straight, firm chin with a little beard, level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set and super depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Well marked in a slightly dark warm seal, lightly shaded body, short close cat of very good texture. Superb temperament, she really enjoyed being judged, excellent presentation.

A lad of good type, though as one nearly adult he could do with a more masculine appearance. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile and bump on the nose, chin ebbs slightly, bite level. Points a good warm seal, moderately shaded warm toned body, coat a fraction long but close lying and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A girl of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, large ears which she mostly bonneted but did eventually relax into holding them properly. Profile with a small bump on the nose and angled down a little from the brow, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a bright blue which I would prefer to see deeper. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail with a small terminal irregularity. Points a dark warm seal, very lightly shaded body, short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A lad of good type. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile rather angled down from the brow, firm slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape which he does open rather wide at times, well set, of a bright blue which I would prefer to have more depth. Long weighty muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a darkish warm seal, lightly shaded body, close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

A girl of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a small bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set though she does open them rather wide at times, of a very good depth of blue. Long slender but muscular body, long legs with neat paws, good length of tail though with a small terminal irregularity. Points a dark warm seal well broken with shades of pale red. Moderately shaded body, coat a little long along the spine, short elsewhere and close lying, of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Durham Oriental Breeders Kitten

A well grown lad of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, very well set ears which he needs to grow into,. Straight profile, firm slightly shallow chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, the colour still rather murky but with some evidence of green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, long tail with a small irregularity at the tip. Markings in black on a commendably warm ground colour. Unusually, his spotted pattern shows signs of being a broken classic rather than mackerel. Very good markings to head, well broken spine, well ringed tail. Spots on the sides distinct in the middle, tending to be more linked at the front and back, a little agouti invasion but the markings sound to the roots. Short close coat of excellent texture. Superb temperament, excellent presentation.

Eyes of excellent shape and set and a good deep blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a slightly pale red but possessing good brightness, lightly shaded body, coat fractionally long but close lying and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. At the end of the day by a distance my choice for Best Siamese (in the other show).

A mature girl of very good type, unlucky to be in the same class as the winner, very attractive in her own right. Long wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile though slightly angled down from the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, though I should prefer a slightly deeper shade of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a good lilac-based caramel well broken with shades of warm apricot. Lightly shaded body, short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
