Teesside Cat Club - 23 August 2014

Thanks to Veda, Betty and the show committee for the invitation to judge - a good day with some quality exhibits. I took over some of Janet Starr's classes when she was unable to attend - I hope exhibitors were not too disappointed at the substitution.

Open Classes

Oriental Grand Premier

IGPC Hardy's GRCH & GRPR PIPPASTRO JAY SILVERHEELS (OLH ds 11) MN 24 Feb 12
An impressive large lad of excellent type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, large ears well set. Profile almost straight, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set, olive green in colour. Long weighty muscular body, long legs with largish paws, tail needs an extra inch. Coat would ideally be a little longer over the back and upper sides, but is nevertheless of acceptable length, length is quite good elsewhere and the soft silky texture everywhere is excellent. Good plume and attractive furnishings to ears and feet. Colour a slightly pale red, pure silver undercolour to the bottom three quarters, only a very faint and rather diffuse tabby pattern visible on the surface. Handled well, but it's a pity he's so shy. Excellent presentation.

Siamese/Balinese Grand Premier

1 (IGPC N/A) Johnson's GRPR SULALAYA ICEWARRIOR (SIA m 21) MN 18 Aug 11
A large lad of good type Longish wedge, rather broad in the muzzle and with a small pinch, ideally the top would be a little broader, well set ears of adequate size. Small bump on the nose, profile otherwise straight, chin ebbs a little and is slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of a good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail need an extra inch. Marked in a pale lilac-based caramel, "M" and single ribbon rather sketchy, thumbprints present, leg bars just visible, tail three quarters ringed. Moderately shaded body, coat slightly long but close lying and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. For me, he needs better type for a certificate at this level.

Siamese/Balinese Premier Male

1 (GPC N/A) Webster's PR NANPEMA BOLERO (SIA em) 13 Feb 087
Quite a small lad, and to my eye needing more masculinity, type basically good. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set ears of adequate size. Small dip in profile, firm though slightly shallow chin, level bite lacking most incisors. Eyes of good shape and set, of a good depth of blue. Points a pale apricot showing adequate browny overtones, moderately shaded body and contrast accordingly could be better. Coat a little long though of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. I was happy enough to award BOB later, but did not think he had the quality to demand a higher award.

Siamese/Balinese Premier Female

GPC Webster's PR NANPEMA SERENDIPITY (SIA n) 25 Oct 12
A girl of superior type and excellent colour. Longish almost even wedge, a little broad in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set large ears. Al most straight profile, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, quite a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch and rather blunt at the tip. Points a very good dense warm seal, though a little spoilt by brindling to the mask, moderately shaded very warm toned body, short close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Bicolour Neuter

BOB Webster's IGRCH & PR FIORDILISO NANPEMA-NUAGE (OSH n 03 33) FN 21 Mar 12
A girl of very good type, much improved of late in her new slimmer-line appearance. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, a little angled down from the brow, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape, set and depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Dark seal points, lightly shaded body, white in the required places and plenty of it - about half white to colour. Short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tabby Point Siamese Adult

1 (CC N/A) Wetherill's STYPERSON SILHOUETTE (SIA b 21) F 23 Sep 13
A girl of good type, who has developed very well since our last meeting and now looks like an adult rather than an overgrown kitten. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Tiny dip in profile, chin firm but a little shallow, bite level. Eyes of very good shape and set and a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Well marked in a dark but very warm toned chocolate which IU find extremely attractive even if not the ideal - good "M" and thumbprints, faint single ribbon and leg bars, tail two thirds ringed. Sadly, her paw pads are pink speckled with chocolate which is not correct, and was my reason not to award the certificate. Unshaded body, coat short and close-lying and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tortie Point Siamese Adult

1+CC Palmer & Newman's COCOBA SALT N PIPPA (SIA g) 22 Jul 13
A very friendly girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape, set rather straight, of a good depth of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch and she would insist on fluffing it out. Points a dark blue all well broken with shades of slightly warm cream, the ears leathery as blues often are. Lightly shaded body, coat a fraction long but of good texture. Excellent temperament - calling I think - excellent presentation.
BOB Veal & Smith's CH RIOBELLE LYRA (SIA m) 14 Feb 12
An attractive petite girl of very good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm slightly shallow chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape though inclined to open wide out of the pen, well set and of a good depth of blue. Longish firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a pale lilac based caramel showing good browny overtones, mingled everywhere with shades of warm apricot, lightly shaded body, short close coat of good texture except a little harsh on the lower spine. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tortie Point Siamese Kitten

1+BOB Veal & Smith's MULLSI WISH UPON A STAR (SIA h) 13 Apr 14
An eye catching baby of very good type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, very large ears which she mostly held very low and tended to bonnet - a look I do not find at all attractive - but redeemed herself by eventually restoring them to a better position, even if it was still lower than I would prefer. Small dip in profile and bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape, set rather straight, of a good depth of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Point a dark warm chocolate mingled everywhere with shades of red, but while there is foreground red in the mingling it is very pale. Unshaded body, short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Tortie Point Siamese Neuter

BOB IGRPR ASHJOLEX AURORA BOREALIS (SIA k) 7 Apr 11
A well balanced attractive girl of very good type. Medium length well balanced even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile straight apart from a small bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape which she has an unfortunate habit of expanding when taken out of her pen, well set and of a good depth of blue. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points of a very attractive pale lilac based caramel subtly mingled with shades of warm apricot, lightly shaded body, coat a fraction long but close lying and of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Apricot Point Siamese Neuter

BOB Webster's PR NANPEMA BOLERO MN

Balinese Neuter

1+PC+BOB Hardy's PIPPASTRO GOOD-KNIGHT (OLH c 21 33) MN 29 Sep 13
A promising lad of good type, still looking very adolescent but that's to be expected at his age. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of a bright mid blue which ideally would be deeper in tone. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra inch. Very promising coat for his age, quite a good length over the upper body, long elsewhere, well furnished ears and feet, good plume. Quite good tabby markings to head including thumbprints, leg bars and tail rings just visible. The colour is a bit of an enigma - a darkish lilac, with a slightly browny overtone, but not appearing to be caramel. Actually all of the lilacs in this hall looked like that, so it could well be a property of the lighting. Unshaded body. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Miscellaneous Classes

Maiden Oriental Adult

1 Brown's FIROUSI FUDGE-BROWNIE (OLH b) M 8 Oct 13
A well grown lad showing very good maturity for his tender years, of very good type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Otherwise straight profile spoiled by a bump n the nose, firm deep chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, olive green in colour. Long well muscled body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Coat very short over the upper body though the texture is excellent, reasonable length elsewhere with a good plume and good furnishings to ears and feet. Rich warm chocolate colouring, completely sound, showing very faint ghost markings in the lower sides. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Non-Breeders Oriental Neuter

1 Webster's IGRCH & PR FIORDILISO NANPEMA-NUAGE (OSH n 03 33) FN

Aquarius Oriental Adult, Kitten or Neuter

1 Palmer & Newman's CH & PR ADELFSH MYPRECIOUSBOY (OSH c) MN 20 Jan 11
A lad of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, needing more width at the top, large ears set in line. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of a pure but palish green. Long well fed body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction and has a small irregularity at the tip. Colour a darkish lilac, slightly brown-toned and not completely sound, coat a little long but close lying and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Non-Breeders Siamese/Balinese Adult

1 Calloway's DRESTOTHRIL SIAMAZING-BEAU (SIA n) M 13 Sep 13
A handsome lad of good type, showing good maturity for his age. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small bump on the nose, profile straight but angled down from the brow, firm though slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, ideally they would be a darker shade of blue. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, tail well shaped but needing an extra fraction. Points a good warm seal, lightly shaded warm toned body, coat close and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 Chivers's MONGKUT DARLING DEMON (SIA c) F 30 Oct 13
An adolescent girl of reasonably good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, angled down slightly from the brow, firm but slightly shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape though slightly full, well set though they were a little too far apart, ideally they would be a deeper shade of blue. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a darkish lilac with a slight browny appearance, unshaded body, coat a fraction long but close lying and of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation,

Novice Siamese/Balinese Adult

1 Evans's DRESTOTHRIL DIADEM (SIA n) F 11 Oct 13
A youngster of superior type. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, large ears which mostly insisted on holding low and forward, but she did eventually relax to show their set to be good. Profile with a small bump on the nose, very firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a bright blue which ideally needs more depth. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail with a small terminal irregularity. Points a dark warm seal, lightly shaded body, short close coat of excellent texture. She does have an evil 'make my day' expression but handled perfectly well; excellent presentation.

Senior Siamese/Balinese Adult

1 Veal & Smith's RIOBELLE RED POPPY (SIA d) F 22 Jul 12
An attractive girl of good type, but she does her utmost to conceal the fact - she needs a lot of persuasion to relax sufficiently to allow a fair assessment. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Eyes of good shape though still slightly full when relaxed (or at any rate as close to it as could be managed), well set, of a good depth of blue. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points a good bright red, lightly shaded body, very short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent presentation.

Maiden Siamese/Balinese Kitten

1 Veal & Smith's MULLSI WISH UPON A STAR (SIA h) F
2 Johnson's MERRYTAIL MISS SOPHIA (SIA b) F 24 Jan 14
A rather diminutive girl of good type. Medium length wedge with a small pinch, needing slight extra width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm rather shallow chin, level bite. Eyes of good shape though a little full, needing a little more depth of blue. Long slender body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Points a darkish warm chocolate, lightly shaded body, short close coat of good texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Aries Siamese/Balinese Adult, Kitten or Neuter

1 Keoghan's PIPPASTRO HAYLEY'S COMET (OLH b 33) M 25 Mar 14
A very well grown lad of excellent balanced type, the most promising Balinese kitten I have seen since Pippastro Hawkmoth. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm deep chin with a little beard, level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, of a good bright blue - ideally, they would be slightly larger (not a comment I often have occasion to make about a Balinese). Long firm body, long legs with quite neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a darkish warm chocolate, a little brindling to the mask, unshaded body. The coat is just about long enough given his age, with more length to develop, and its texture is excellent, the plume is already good. Excellent temperament and presentation.
