Somerset & West Country - 12 September 2015

Thanks to team Robinson and the show committee for the invitation to judge, a reasonable size of entry in /Siamese and Oriental sections and some good quality among it. I picked up some of Liz Corps's classes when she was unable to attend, I hope exhibitors were not too upset by the substitution.

Somerset Open Classes

Oriental Imperial Grand Premier Male

1 (IGPC n/a) Drummond's GRPR HEMLOCK RISKY BIZZNESS (OSH n 24)
A lad of excellent type. Long even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set, a good green in colour. Long muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Pattern colour black, the ground unfortunately lacking warmth, rather grey in colour. Very good markings to head, legs and tail, spine line well broken at head and tail, but very solid for the middle half, spotting elsewhere on the body mostly well separated though there is some linkage at the front of the body, the expected agouti overlay to the front edge of the spots in evidence, but also quite an amount of agouti within the spots. Very short close coat of excellent texture. Rather a retiring lad, excellent presentation. At this level, I thought that his pattern and colour problems sufficient to preclude the certificate.

Oriental Grand Champion Female

GCC May's CH BUURAAPHA AUTUMN BELLE (OSH b 25) 23 Oct 14
A very attractive petite girl of very good type, not surprisingly at her age still some way from maturity, but quite well developed for her age. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Profile almost straight, firm chin, bite scissored under. Eyes of very good shape and set, and good green colour. Medium length muscular body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Three bands of very even ticking in warm chocolate on a pale beige ground, just slightly darker in the middle of the dorsal area. Very short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.
2 (Res GCC n/a) Bauerfeind's CH TOGHAR TRULYCINFUL (OSH o) 20 Aug 12
A girl of very good type but of very uncertain temper permitting only very brief handling. Longish even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile and rather angled down from the brow, firm chin, she permitted only a fleeting glimpse at her bite but it seemed OK. Eyes of good shape and set though opened rather wide, of a good green colour. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Colour a good warm cinnamon, sound to the roots, showing slight ghosting to the sides, short close coat of very good texture. Excellent presentation
Also considered Hart's CH LORICHA ORGANZA (OLH ns 11) 6 Nov 10
A girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, needing slightly more width at the top, well set large ears, Dip in profile and bump on the nose, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape though rather full, olive green in colour. Medium length firm body, long legs with neatish paws, tail needs at least another inch to balance. Pattern colour charcoal, clear silver undercolour pushing the colour almost to the tips, some tarnishing to the paws. Coat of good length and flow and excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Spotted Tabby Adult

1 (CC n/a) Verlander's EOLO-ARPHA SHERIDAN'S (OSH n 24) F 3 Dec 2010
A girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Small dip in profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set and good green colour. Long firm body, log legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Pattern colour dark brown, rather unsound, on a warm toned ground with quite a bit of grey at the roots. Good markings to head, legs and tail, well broken spine, spotting mostly well separated though some linkage to the front of the body, but unfortunately very invaded by agouti. Short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Ticked Tabby Adult

1+CC Hemmings's LORICHA CHANTILLY LACE (OSH ns 25) F 12 Jan 14
A girl of good type. Medium length even wedge, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape though she does open them rather wide at times, well set, of a rather yellowy green. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs another inch and rather blunt at the tip. Three bands of ticking in charcoal on a clear silver ground. Coat rather long and soft in texture. Very shy but easy enough to handle, excellent presentation.
Considered for BOB May's CH BUURAAPHA AUTUMN BELLE (OSH b 25) F
BOB May's GRCH BUURAAPHA TICKETY BOO (OSH q 25) F 13 Jul 13
An attractive petite girl of very good type. Longish even wedge which ideally would have a little more width at the top, well set large eras. Profile straight, angled down gently from the brow, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of very good shape and set and good green colour. Medium length firm body, long legs with neat paws, balancing length of tail. Three bands of even ticking in a warm cinnamon subtly mingled with shades of red which does have the effect of lifting the colour, pale warm ground, slightly darker dorsal area. Very short close coat of excellent texture. Excellent temperament and presentation. While the younger girl has better potential, she still needs to grow up fully and it was that that determined the BOB.

Oriental Bicolour Adult

BOB Wright's GRCH COCOBA FLUTTERBY BUTTERFLY (OSH a 03 33) F 22 Jul 13
A girl of good type. Longish wedge with a small pinch, good width at the top, well set large ears. Straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set, of rather a pale blue, not unexpected in a bicolour. Long firm body, long legs with neat paws, tail needs an extra fraction. Points of quite a good blue, moderately shaded body, white in an inverted V on the face and to the ear base and tips, white to entire chest and underbody extending a little up the sides, almost the entire front legs extending over the neck, substantial white to rear legs also and some splashes on the upper body, in all about 40% white. Short coat of good texture a little spoilt by war wounds in the area of the neck. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Oriental Bicolour Adult

BOB Tasker's GRCH LORICHA BUNDOOK BOY (OLH ns 11) M 20 Dec 09
A lad of good type who I'd prefer to look more obviously masculine. Medium length even wedge rather short in the muzzle, good width at the top, well set ears of adequate size. Dip in profile and angled down from the brow, firm rather shallow chin and level bite. Eyes of good shape and set of an olive green colour. Medium length body, long legs with neatish paws, tail needs an extra inch. Pattern colour charcoal, the undercolour a rather grey silver, quite heavily shaded with the undercolour extending only about halfway up. Substantial tarnishing to head and limbs. Coat of good length and texture, though a little undercoat present on the sides, good furnishings to feet and ears, good plume. Excellent temperament and presentation.

Most Unusual Coat Pattern

1 Winn's IGMC GUMMI BEAR (Blue Tortie Tabby SH) MN
What are the odds in a class with this description of finding two cats with exactly the same pattern? Both with excellent friendly temperaments and in super condition. This lad had just the edge for friendliness, and a rexed coat which I though weighed a little in the class criteria.
